Quantum State Transfer from a Single Photon to a Distant Quantum-Dot Electron Spin

Yu He, Yuming He, Yu-Jia Wei +7 more

Quantum state transfer from flying photons to stationary matter qubits is an important element in the realization of quantum networks. Self-assembled semiconductor quantum dots provide a promising solid-state platform hosting both single photon and spin, with an inherent light-matter interface. Here, we develop a method to coherently and actively control the single-photon frequency bins in superposition using electro-optic modulators, and measure the spin-photon entanglement with a fidelity of 0.796±0.020. Further, by Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-type state projection on the frequency, path, and polarization degrees of freedom of a single photon, we demonstrate quantum state transfer from a single photon to a single electron spin confined in an InGaAs quantum dot, separated by 5 m. The quantum state mapping from the photon's polarization to the electron's spin is demonstrated along three different axes on the Bloch sphere, with an average fidelity of 78.5%.

Path-dependent initialization of a single quantum dot exciton spin in a nanophotonic waveguide

R. J. Coles, D. M. Price, Benjamin Royall +4 more

We demonstrate a scheme for in-plane initialization of a single exciton spin in an InGaAs quantum dot (QD) coupled to a GaAs nanobeam waveguide. The chiral coupling of the QD and the optical mode of the nanobeam enables spin initialization fidelity approaching unity in magnetic field $B=1$ T and $>0.9$ without the field. We further show that this in-plane excitation scheme is independent of the incident excitation laser polarization and depends solely on the excitation direction. This scheme provides a robust in-plane spin excitation basis for a photon-mediated spin network for quantum information applications.

Coherent Spin-Photon Interface with Waveguide Induced Cycling Transitions

Martin Hayhurst Appel, Alexey Tiranov, Alisa Javadi +7 more

Solid-state quantum dots are promising candidates for efficient light-matter interfaces connecting internal spin degrees of freedom to the states of emitted photons. However, selection rules prevent the combination of efficient spin control and optical cyclicity in this platform. By utilizing a photonic crystal waveguide we here experimentally demonstrate optical cyclicity up to ≈15 through photonic state engineering while achieving high fidelity spin initialization and coherent optical spin control. These capabilities pave the way towards scalable multiphoton entanglement generation and on-chip spin-photon gates.

An on-chip cross-waveguide QD spin-photon interface and its applications

A. B. Young, A. J. Ramsay, Isaac John Luxmoore +8 more

Quantum dot (QD) systems containing electron spins may hold a role in a future photonic quantum circuit as a means of storing a quantum state in a spin superposition. In general, the spin superposition state maps directly to a photon emitted out of the plane (kz) with the photon in a polarization superposition. In waveguides, however, this is more difficult: one requires a waveguide mode that is able to transmit both TExand TEymodes in coherent superposition. We have already demonstrated a cross-waveguide design, as shown in Fig 1(a), that converts spin superposition states to a path encoding when the QD is located close to the waveguide centre.
