Abstract

The spectrum of a Hamiltonian describing the dynamics of a Landau particle with time-dependent mass and frequency undergoing the influence of a uniform time-dependent electric field is obtained. The configuration space wave function of the model is expressed in terms of the generalised Laguerre polynomials. To diagonalize the time-dependent Hamiltonian, we employ the Lewis-Riesenfeld method of invariants. To this end, we introduce a unitary transformation in the framework of the algebraic formalism to construct the invariant operator of the system and then to obtain the exact solution of the Hamiltonian. We recover the solutions of the ordinary Landau problem in the absence of the electric and harmonic fields for a constant particle mass.

Quantization and coherent states for a time-dependent Landau problem

Latévi M. Lawson

The ordinary Landau problem consists of describing a charged particle in time-independent magnetic field. In the present case the problem is generalized onto time-dependent uniform electric fields with time-dependent mass and harmonic frequency [1].The spectrum of a Hamiltonian describing this system is obtained. The configuration space wave functions of the model is expressed in terms of the generalised Laguerre polynomials. To diagonalize the time-dependent Hamiltonian we employ the Lewis-Riesenfeld method of invariants. To this end, we introduce an unitary transformation in the framework of the algebraic formalism to construct the invariant operator of the system and then to obtain the exact solution of the Hamiltonian. We recover the solutions of the ordinary Landau problem in the absence of the electric and harmonic fields, for a constant particle mass. The quantization of this system exhibits many symmetries such as $U(1), SU(2), SU(1,1)$. We therefore construct the coresponding coherent states and the associated photon added and nonlinear coherent states.

Photon-added BarutGirardello like coherent states of time-dependent\n Landau problem

Latévi M. Lawson, Komi Sodoga, Gabriel Y. H. Avossevou

Recently, we have determined the spectrum and the wave functions of the Hamiltonian of a Landau particle with time-dependent mass and frequency undergoing the influence of a uniform time-dependent electric field[J. Math. Phys. 56, 072104 (2018)]. In the present paper we extend the study of this model that we name the time-dependent Landau problem into the context of coherent states. By means of the traditional factorization method of the eigenfunctions of this system expressed in terms of the generalized Laguerre polynomials, we derive the generators of the su(1,1) Lie algebra and we construct the coherent states a la Barut-Girardello. These states are shown to satisfy the Klauder's mathematical requirement to build coherent states and some of their statistical properties are calculated and analyzed. We find that these states are sub-Poissonian in nature. We show that, addition of photons from these coherent states, increases the statistical properties and changes the mathematical properties of these states.

Time-dependent coupled harmonic oscillators: Classical and quantum solutions

D. X. Macedo, I. Guedes

In this work we present the classical and quantum solutions for an arbitrary system of time-dependent coupled harmonic oscillators, where the masses (m), frequencies (ω) and coupling parameter (k) are functions of time. To obtain the classical solutions, we use a coordinate and momentum transformations along with a canonical transformation to write the original Hamiltonian as the sum of two Hamiltonians of uncoupled harmonic oscillators with modified time-dependent frequencies and unitary masses. To obtain the exact quantum solutions we use a unitary transformation and the Lewis and Riesenfeld (LR) invariant method. The exact wave functions are obtained by solving the respective Milne–Pinney (MP) equation for each system. We obtain the solutions for the system with m1 = m2 = m0eγt, ω1 = ω01e-γt/2, ω2 = ω02e-γt/2 and k = k0.

Quantum Dynamics of a Particle in a Linear Potential: Invariant Operator Approach and Discrete Spectrum Solutions

Mustapha Maamache, Aymen Bendjoudl

We investigate the quantum dynamics of a particle subjected to a linear potential using the Lewis--Riesenfeld invariant operator method. Starting from the time-dependent Schrödinger equation associated with a constant external force, we construct the most general Hermitian quadratic invariant and derive the corresponding coupled differential equations for its time-dependent coefficients. By means of an appropriate sequence of unitary transformations, the invariant operator is reduced to the form of a harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian. This reduction enables a clear classification of the system according to the sign of the conserved quantity ω2. Particular attention is devoted to the physically relevant case ω2 >0, which yields a discrete eigenspectrum. Explicit analytical expressions for the invariant coefficients, the displacement parameters, and the transformed wave functions are obtained. The resulting formalism provides an exact quantum description of a particle under a constant force and establishes a direct connection between invariant theory and harmonic oscillator quantization.

On the two-dimensional time-dependent anisotropic harmonic oscillator in a magnetic field

Pinaki Patra

A charged harmonic oscillator in a magnetic field, Landau problems, and an oscillator in a noncommutative space share the same mathematical structure in their Hamiltonians. We have considered a two-dimensional anisotropic harmonic oscillator with arbitrarily time-dependent parameters (effective mass and frequencies), placed in an arbitrarily time-dependent magnetic field. A class of quadratic invariant operators (in the sense of Lewis and Riesenfeld) have been constructed. The invariant operators (Î) have been reduced to a simplified representative form by a linear canonical transformation [the group Sp(4,R)]. An orthonormal basis of the Hilbert space consisting of the eigenvectors of Î is obtained. In order to obtain the solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation corresponding to the system, both the geometric and dynamical phase-factors are constructed. A generalized Peres–Horodecki separability criterion (Simon’s criterion) for the ground state corresponding to our system has been demonstrated.

Exact wave functions of a harmonic oscillator with time-dependent mass and frequency

I. A. Pedrosa

We use the Lewis and Riesenfeld invariant method [J. Math. Phys. 10, 1458 (1969)] to obtain the exact Schr\"odinger wave functions for a harmonic oscillator with time-dependent mass and frequency. Exact coherent states for such system are also constructed.
