Abstract

We demonstrate a compact, alignment-free, turn-key, all-fiber broadband polarization-entangled photon source pumped by a fiber-pigtailed laser diode. Robust and stable operation yields a concurrence of 0.966 ± 0.015 and a fidelity to |Ψ+〉 of 98.1 ± 0.8%.

Turn-key diode-pumped all-fiber broadband polarization-entangled photon source

Changjia Chen, Arash Riazi, Eric Y. Zhu +4 more

In this letter, we report a compact, low-power laser diode-pumped, all-fiber polarization-entangled photon pair source based on periodically-poled silica fiber technology. The all-fiber source offers room-temperature, alignment-free, turn-key operation, with low power consumption, and is packaged into a fanless, portable enclosure. It features a broad biphoton spectrum of more than 100nm with a concurrence that is greater than 0.96 for polarization entanglement. The source is stable over at least 10 hours of continuous operation, achieving coincidence-to-accidental ratios of more than 2000 consistently over this time period.

Broadband Telecom Entanglement from an All-Fiber Type-0 Sagnac Source

Alessandro Cestelli, Spyridon Grountas, Scott Mc Haffie +3 more

We demonstrate a compact, practical all-fiber source of non-degenerate telecom-band polarization-entangled photon pairs assembled from off-the-shelf components. The compact fiber-integrated architecture is designed to be affordable, straightforward to assemble and align, and compatible with existing optical-fiber infrastructure. Photon pairs are generated through type-0 spontaneous parametric down-conversion in a pigtailed periodically poled lithium-niobate waveguide embedded in a Sagnac interferometer. At 0.5 mW pump power, quantum-state tomography yields a Bell-state fidelity $F_{Φ^-}=0.850$, purity $P=0.836$, and concurrence $C=0.782$. A separate CHSH measurement gives $S=2.3301\pm0.0075$. The measured Bell-state fidelity is sufficient for the reconstructed polarization state to support qubit teleportation above the classical fidelity limit under ideal protocol operations. Analysis of the density matrix shows that approximately 96.7% of the population remains in the desired $|HH\rangle$-$|VV\rangle$ subspace, with a normalized coherence of approximately 0.86. A residual relative-phase offset indicates that local phase compensation could increase the Bell-state fidelity to approximately 0.8865. We further characterize the brightness--quality trade-off and obtain a corrected pair-rate slope of $(0.918\pm0.040)$ Mcps mW$^{-1}$. The broadband emission and fiber interfaces offer a route to multiuser entanglement distribution through off-the-shelf multichannel wavelength-division multiplexers with passbands matched to the signal and idler wavelengths.

Compact sources of polarization-entangled photons

Marco Fiorentino B, Raymond G. Beausoleil

We present several novel sources of polarization-entangled states based on beam displacer interferometers. These sources generate a large number of high-quality entangled photon pairs in a compact alignment-free layout and can work with both cw and pulsed pumps.

Deterministically separable polarization-entangled photons from battery-powered diode lasers

Zacharie M. Léger, Trevor J. Stirling, Meng Lon Iu +1 more

Large-scale integrated sources of quantum light are enabling ingredients for the future of photonic quantum technologies. For such platforms, sources based on electrical injection are of value for their turnkey operation, as they do not rely on bulky off-chip sources to achieve quantum nonlinear conversion. This work presents the first demonstration of a source of entangled photons fully contained in a single waveguide. Our source is based on a single battery-powered Bragg reflection waveguide diode laser producing two indistinguishable sources of ultra-broadband polarization-entangled photons. The output state of our device has a Bell-state fidelity of 86.3% without accidental subtraction, a high entangled pair generation rate of 1.16 × 106 (pairs)/(s ⋅ mW ⋅ facet), and an ultra-broadband entangled photon pair bandwidth >5.22 THz. Our approach yields scalable, compact, low-power, and stable sources of polarization-entangled photons, needed for real-world applications of quantum communications and network systems.
