Coherent Perfect Absorption and Transmission Based on a Multi-Mode Optomechanical System

We present a generalized multi-mode cavity optomechanical system, where two cavity modes with strong control fields and weak signal fields are coupled to a common mechanical resonator. The weak input signal fields will be entirely absorbed by the system without generating any energy output from each of the cavity modes termed coherent perfect absorption (CPA), and the two cavity modes and mechanical mode will share the input probe fields energy when CPA occurs under parameter regimes. With changing the parameter conditions, a weak input signal field will transmit from one cavity to the other cavity without undergoing any energy loss termed coherent perfect transmission (CPT). The above phenomena are dependent on the coupling strength between the two cavity modes in this optomechanical system. The origin and conditions that enable these phenomena to achieve are analyzed, and potential applications in quantum information may be realized in all-optical domain based on such phenomena.

Quantum optical response of a hybrid optomechanical device embedded with a qubit

Sabur A. Barbhuiya, Aranya B. Bhattacherjee

Abstract We theoretically investigate the optical response in a hybrid quantum optomechanical system consisting of two optically coupled micro-cavities in which a two-level system (qubit) is coupled with a mechanical membrane. The qubit can either be a defect which interacts with the mechanical oscillator via the linear Jaynes–Cummings interaction or a superconducting charge qubit coupled with the mechanical mode via non-linear interaction. We find that coherent perfect transmission (CPT), coherent perfect synthesis (CPS) and optomechanically induced absorption (OMIA) can be generated by suitably adjusting the system parameters. We find that the qubit and its interaction with the mechanical oscillator emerges as a new handle to control these quantum optical properties. The presence of the qubit results in four points where CPT and CPS can be realized compared to the pure optomechanical case (i.e. in the absence of a qubit) where only three points are attained. This shows that the presence of the qubit gives us more flexibility in choosing the appropriate parameter regime where CPT and CPS can be attained and controlled. We also find that OMIA shows three distinct peaks both in the linear and non-linear cases. In the absence of the qubit, OMIA is converted to optomechanically induced transmission (OMIT). An increase in the qubit decay rate also shows a transition from OMIA to OMIT. Our study reveals that the optical response of the non-linear case is relatively rapid and more sensitive compared to the linear case to changes in the system parameters. This demonstrates the potential use of this hybrid system in designing a tunable all-optical switch and photon router, both of which form important elements of a quantum information network.

All-optical transistor based on Rydberg atom-assisted optomechanical system.

Yi-Mou Liu, Xue-Dong Tian, Jing Wang +3 more

We study the optical response of a double optomechanical cavity system assisted by two Rydberg atoms. The target atom is only coupled with one side cavity by a single cavity mode, and gate one is outside the cavities. It has been realized that a long-range manipulation of optical properties of a hybrid system, by controlling the Rydberg atom decoupled with the optomechanical cavity. Switching on the coupling between atoms and cavity mode, the original spatial inversion symmetry of the double cavity structure has been broken. Combining the controllable optical non-reciprocity with the coherent perfect absorption/transmission/synthesis effect (CPA/CPT/CPS reported by [ X.-B.Yan Opt. Express 22, 4886 (2014)], we put forward the theoretical schemes of an all-optical transistor which contains functions such as a controllable diode, rectifier, and amplifier by controlling a single gate photon.
