Collective excitations of two-component degenerate Fermi gases in an anharmonic trap

Kezhi Zhang

The collective excitations of two-component degenerate Fermi gases in a harminic trap with a quartic distortion are investigated.Using variational approaches, the coupled equations of motions for the center-of-mass coordinate and width of two-component degenerate Fermi gases are derived. Then two low-energy excitation modes are obtained analytically. The freqency shift, collapse and revival of the collective excitations of two-component degenerate Fermi gases induced by the anharmonic distortion under different values of the effective s-and p-wave interactions are discussed, respectively.

Stability of two-component degenerate Fermi gases with attractive interactions in an anharmonic trap

Yuting Ma

The stability of two-component degenerate Fermi gases with attractive interactions in a harminic trap with a quartic distortion in the mean-field is studied. The influences of anharmonicity and p-wave interaction on the stability of Fermi gas are discussed, respectively. It is shown that the anharmonicity of harminic trap and the p-wave interaction have important effect on the stability of Fermi gas,and have an effect on the particle numberal density distributing.Using variational approaches, the stability condition of the system in a harminic trap with a quartic distortion under the effective s-and p-wave interactions are derived.

Trapped Fermionic Clouds Distorted from the Trap Shape due to Many-Body Effects

Masudul Haque, Henk T. C. Stoof

We present a general approach for describing trapped Fermi gases, when the cloud shape is distorted with respect to the trap shape. Our approach provides a consistent way to explore physics beyond the local density approximation, if this is necessary due to the distortion. We illustrate this by analyzing in detail experimentally observed distortions in a trapped imbalanced Fermi mixture. In particular, we demonstrate in that case dramatic deviations from ellipsoidal cloud shapes arising from the competition between surface and bulk energies.
