Abstract

In order to improve the performance of non-binary low-density parity check codes (LDPC) hard decision decoding algorithm and to reduce the complexity of decoding, a sum of the magnitude for hard decision decoding algorithm based on loop update detection is proposed. This will also ensure the reliability, stability and high transmission rate of 5G mobile communication. The algorithm is based on the hard decision decoding algorithm (HDA) and uses the soft information from the channel to calculate the reliability, while the sum of the variable nodes’ (VN) magnitude is excluded for computing the reliability of the parity checks. At the same time, the reliability information of the variable node is considered and the loop update detection algorithm is introduced. The bit corresponding to the error code word is flipped multiple times, before this is searched in the order of most likely error probability to finally find the correct code word. Simulation results show that the performance of one of the improved schemes is better than the weighted symbol flipping (WSF) algorithm under different hexadecimal numbers by about 2.2 dB and 2.35 dB at the bit error rate (BER) of 10−5 over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel, respectively. Furthermore, the average number of decoding iterations is significantly reduced.

New low-density-parity-check decoding approach based on the hard and soft decisions algorithms

Hajar El Ouakili, Hassan Touati, Abdelilah Kadi +2 more

It is proved that hard decision algorithms are more appropriate than a soft decision for low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoding since they are less complex at the decoding level. On the other hand, it is notable that the soft decision algorithm outperforms the hard decision one in terms of the bit error rate (BER) gap. In order to minimize the BER and the gap between these two families of LDPC codes, a new LDPC decoding algorithm is suggested in this paper, which is based on both the normalized min-sum (NMS) and modified-weighted bit-flipping (MWBF). The proposed algorithm is named normalized min sum- modified weighted bit flipping (NMSMWBF). The MWBF is executed after the NMS algorithm. The simulations show that our algorithm outperforms the NMS in terms of BER at 10-8 over the additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) channel by 0.25 dB. Furthermore, the proposed NMSMWBF and the NMS are both at the same level of decoding difficulty.

Loop Detection Based on Bit-Flipping Decoding Algorithm for LDPC Codes

Zhong Xun Wang, Fang Qiang Zhu, Li Liu +1 more

In this paper, we introduce a new bit-flipping decoding algorithm for low-density parity-check codes based on loop detection mechanism, which is an extension to soft-decision decoding. This decoding algorithm's performance has been significantly improved by introducing a loop detection mechanism for the failed flipping bit and leading into the soft-decision about the reliability measure of the received symbols. Theoretical analysis shows that the complexity of this algorithm is lower. Some simulation results are given, which show that compared with other known kinds of bit-flipping decoding algorithms for LDPC codes, this new decoding on the additive white Gaussian noise channel offer excellent performance.

Differential Decoding of Low-Density Parity-Check Codes Based on Min Sum Algorithm

Shizhang Peng, Zemao Zhao, Jianrong Bao

To improve performance and reduce computation complexity of the low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, a min-sum based differential decoding algorithm is proposed. The main principle is that the messages passing in the bipartite graph of the codes are the probability differences and the updates of the check nodes adopt min sum algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve about 0.4dB performance gain over the UMP BP-Based decoding algorithm at bit error rate (BER) of under an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. And it can obtain good performance very close to that of the BP decoding algorithm with much lower complexity.

Improved Iterative Hard- and Soft-Reliability Based Majority-Logic Decoding Algorithms for Non-Binary Low-Density Parity-Check Codes

Chenrong Xiong, Zhiyuan Yan

Non-binary low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes have some advantages over their binary counterparts, but unfortunately their decoding complexity is a significant challenge. The iterative hard- and soft-reliability based majority-logic decoding algorithms are attractive for nonbinary LDPC codes, since they involve only finite field additions and multiplications as well as integer operations and, hence, have significantly lower complexity than other algorithms. In this paper, we propose two improvements to the majority-logic decoding algorithms. Instead of the accumulation of reliability information in the existing majority-logic decoding algorithms, our first improvement is a new reliability information update. The new update not only results in better error performance and fewer iterations on average, but also further reduces computational complexity. Since existing majority-logic decoding algorithms tend to have a high error floor for codes whose parity check matrices have low column weights, our second improvement is a reselection scheme, which leads to much lower error floors, at the expense of more finite field operations and integer operations, by identifying periodic points, reselecting intermediate hard decisions, and changing reliability information.

High-Performance and Low-Complexity Decoding Algorithms for 5G Low-Density Parity-Check Codes

Bich Ngoc Tran-Thi, Truong Nguyen, Trang Hoang

The development of the Fifth Generation (5G) New Radio (NR) provides several significant advantages when compared to the fourth generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) in mobile communications. Due to the outstanding characteristics of Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes such as high decoding performance, high throughput, low complexity, they have been accepted as the standard codes for the 5G NR. In this paper, we propose two LDPC decoding algorithms: Hybrid Offset Min-Sum (HOMS) and Variable Offset Min-Sum (VOMS), which are aimed at improving the error correction performance. The main idea of the HOMS/VOMS algorithm is to apply modified factors to both variable-nodes and check-nodes updated processing in order to compensate the extrinsic messages overestimation of the MS-based algorithms and increase the protection ability for degree-1 variable-nodes. The simulation results show that at the Bit-Error-Rate (BER) of 10-5, the proposed HOMS/VOMS algorithm achieves the decoding gain up to 0.2 dB compared to the Offset Min-Sum (OMS) algorithm, with a slight increase in decoding complexity.
