Abstract

The performance of Quantum Noise Stream Ciphered coherent optical transmission system is investigated under influence of laser phase noise. The laser linewidth tolerance of QNSC-64QAM is lower than QPSK by 3-MHz at OSNR penalty of 2-dB.

Analysis of the encryption penalty in a QAM-based quantum noise stream dcipher

Yuang Li, Yajie Li, Kongni Zhu +3 more

Quantum noise stream cipher based on quadrature-amplitude-modulation (QAM/QNSC) is a kind of physical layer encryption technology. However, the additional encryption penalty will significantly affect the practical deployment of QNSC, especially in the high capacity and long-haul transmission system. With our research, the encryption process of QAM/QNSC degrades the transmission performance of plaintext information. In this paper, we quantitatively analyze the encryption penalty of QAM/QNSC based on the proposed concept of effective minimum Euclidean distance. We calculate the theoretical signal-to-noise ratio sensitivity and encryption penalty of QAM/QNSC signals. A modified feedforward pilot-aided two-stage carrier phase recovery scheme is used to reduce the effect of laser phase noise and the encryption penalty. Experimental results achieve single-channel 205.9 Gbit/s 640km transmission with single carrier polarization-diversity-multiplexing 16-QAM/QNSC signal.

A Novel Realization of PSK and QPSK Quantum-Noise Randomized Cipher Systems with Optical Domain Decryption

Yukai Chen, Tao Pu, Jilin Zheng +3 more

Quantum-noise randomized cipher (QNRC) is an anti-interception communication technology, which can realize high-speed encryption for data stream in true randomness. In this paper, the characteristics of the phase shift keying (PSK) and quadrature phase shift keying(QPSK) QNRC systems are verified by the simulation system with digital coherent demodulation. The decryption process of the QNRC coherent system is carried out in the optical domain for the first time. Specifically, at the quadrature coupler, the modulated local light is coupled with the received encrypted optical signal. The multi-symbol phase estimation(MSPE) module is employed to eliminate the influence of the phase deviation on the signal decision. Finally, error-free secure transmission is realized at 2.5Gsymbol/s over 500km optically amplified links. We reveal the new fact that the mesoscopic power of QPSK-QNRC system is higher than that of PSK-QNRC system.

I/Q-Combined Encryption and Decryption in Single Carrier QAM Quantum Noise Stream Cipher

Yuang Li, Yajie Li, Chao Lei +3 more

We propose a QAM/QNSC scheme based on I/Q- combined encryption and decryption, which directly recovers low-order signal phase noise after decryption. Simulation results show that the maximum tolerable laser beat linewidth is$\sim 4\times 10^{-4}$. The proposed scheme simplifies the implementation of DSP and avoids the dependence on ultra-narrow-linewidth lasers.

Ciphertext Mapping Method based on Gray Code in Quantum Noise Stream Cipher

Junjia Li, Yajie Li, Bo Wang +3 more

A ciphertext mapping method based on Gray code is proposed to improve the security of quantum noise stream cipher (QNSC). The experiment is conducted in 1024 × 1024 -quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) coherent optical communication system over 300 km. Experimental results verify that the proposed scheme does not affect the transmission performance. Meanwhile, the performance analysis reveals that the attacker's bit error rate (BER) increases to about 0.5 per bit position per symbol. The advantage of proposed scheme is that QNSC makes use of basis with fewer bits for encryption/decryption.
