Abstract

Cavity-controlled spontaneous emission spectrum of two level atom coupled to two lossless symmetrically detuned modes has been found rigorously to be a function of the system's energy eigenvalues and displays triplet, doublet or singlet form depending on detuning, natural linewidth and coupling constant.

Nonperturbative theory of cavity-controlled spontaneous emission of two level atom in microcavity

Vladislav Cheltsov

Summary form only given. The feasibility of cavity-controlled spontaneous emission of a motionless two level atom is analyzed quantum mechanically and nonperturbatively. It is proposed to control the emission by putting the excited atom into the combined field of two lossless modes with their frequencies /spl omega//sub 2,1/ detuned symmetrically about the atomic one /spl omega//sub /spl alpha//, i.e. /spl omega//sub 2,1/=/spl omega//sub /spl alpha///spl plusmn//spl Delta/. The controlling /spl omega//sub 2,1/ modes are isolated from the free radiation field by an one-dimensional ideal cavity (or by two crossed ones) at zero temperature. These modes are taken to be linearly polarized in the same plane. Because the wavelength and cavity dimensions are assumed to be of the same order, the retardation effects are neglected. The spontaneous emission is treated as a radiative decay of the macromolecule-like "atom+/spl omega//sub 2,1/ modes"-subsystem (the H/sub s/-one) under its interaction with the free H/sub k/-field.

Nonperturbative theory of cavity-controlled spontaneous emission of two-level atom trapped in two crossed cavities

Vladislav Cheltsov

The time-dependent spontaneous emission spectral line shape of two level motionless atom placed in common antinode of two symmetrically detuned lossless modes has been investigated nonperturbatively. The line shape and its temporal evolution have been found to be a function of modes detuning and natural line width of isolated atom. The spectrum varies between singlet and triplet taking on the well-known Lorentz-shape form when detuning and natural line width become much larger than the coupling constant of interaction of the atom with modes.

Nonperturbative theory of spontaneous emission of two level atoms in damped cavity: a new tool for direct measuring coupling constants

Vladislav Cheltsov

The fundamentals of nonperturbative theory of spontaneous emission of two level atom coupled to single-mode resonance field in 1D damped cavity are outlined. The theory predicts striking dependence of the emission spectral line shape on the ratio (Gamma) c/g of cavity passive passband to the coupling constant g. When (Gamma) c equals 4g, the line shape transforms from the `two peaks'--form into singlet, thus allowing to find g.

Spontaneous emission in a cavity

Anatolii N Oraevsky

A brief review is given of theoretical and experimental investigations of the spontaneous emission from an atom in a resonator cavity. A theory of spontaneous emission from a two-level atom in free space and in a cavity is presented in a methodical unified manner. In a single-mode resonator the structure of the spectrum of the emitted photons is a singlet or a doublet, depending on the ratio of the cavity damping to the constant of the interaction of an atom with a field. The emission spectrum of an atom in a cavity with two modes with similar frequencies may have a triplet structure.

EXACT THEORY OF SPONTANEOUS EMISSION OF TWO LEVEL ATOM IN ONE-DIMENSIONAL CAVITY

Vladislav Cheltsov

The exact theory of the spontaneous emission of a motionless two level atom in a one-dimensional cavity at zero temperature is presented. In the damped cavity case, using the theory of quasistationary systems and a novel algorithm in operating casual ζ-functions, the theory predicts a hidden-triplet form of emission spectrum which turns abruptly to a singlet when the cavity passive linewidth Γ c /2 becoming equal to twice the coupling constant.
