Bell Inequalities with a Range of Violation that Does Not Diminish as the Spin Becomes Arbitrarily Large

Anupam Garg, N. David Mermin

Some new, powerful, and very simple Bell inequalities are derived. They establish that for two spin-$s$ particles in the singlet state, the quantum-theoretic Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlations for spin measurements along all pairs of directions from a set of $N$ axes are incompatible with local realism for any set of distinct coplanar axes when $N=3$, and for any set of distinct axes whatever when $N=4$, with the possible exception of sets restricted by one of the constraints $\stackrel{^}{a}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\stackrel{^}{b}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\stackrel{^}{c}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\stackrel{^}{d}=0$. These results hold for any value of the spin.

Finite violation of a Bell inequality for arbitrarily large spin

Asher Peres

A pair of spin-j particles, prepared in a singlet state, move away from each other and are examined by two distant observers. A simple experimental procedure can produce a 24% violation of a Bell inequality, for arbitrarily large j.

Bell’s inequalities for particles of arbitrary spin in fixed analyzers

Ronen Mukamel, John C. Howell

We propose a new set of observables for experiments on entangled particles of arbitrarily large spin that produce significant Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality violations for fixed analyzer settings over a wider range of spins than was previously possible. These observables are better suited for experiments where analyzer orientations must be chosen before the spin of the entangled particles is known, such as experiments using polarization entangled downconverted photons.

Some new, powerful, and very simple Bell inequalities are derived. They establish that for two spin-sss particles in the singlet state, the quantum-theoretic Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlations for spin measurements along all pairs of directions from a set of NNN axes are incompatible with local realism for any set of distinct coplanar axes when N=3N=3N=3, and for any set of distinct axes whatever when N=4N=4N=4, with the possible exception of sets restricted by one of the constraints $\stackrel{^}{a}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\stackrel{^}{b}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\stackrel{^}{c}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\stackrel{^}{d}=0$.
