Abstract

Abstract By virtue of the quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation (EUR), we analyze entanglement witness via the efficiencies of the estimates proposed by Berta (2010 Nat. Phys . 6 659) and Pati (2012 Phys. Rev . A 86 042105). The results show that, without a structured reservoir, the entanglement regions witnessed by these EUR estimates are only determined by the chosen estimated setup, and have no correlation with the explicit form of the initial state. On the other hand, with the structured reservoirs, the time regions during which the entanglement can be witnessed, and the corresponding entanglement regions closely depend on the choice of the estimated setup, the initial state and the state purity p . Concretely, for a pure state with p = 1 , the entanglement can be witnessed by both estimates, while for mixed states with p = 0.78 , it can only be witnessed using the Pati estimate. What is more, we find that the time regions incorporating the Pati estimate become discontinuous for the initial state with | ϕ ′ 〉 = ( | 01 〉 + | 10 〉 ) / 2 , and the corresponding entanglement regions remain the same; however the entanglement can only be witnessed once by utilizing the Berta estimate.

Improved uncertainty relation in the presence of quantum memory

Abstract Berta et al ’s uncertainty principle in the presence of quantum memory (Berta et al 2010 Nat. Phys . 6 659 ) reveals uncertainties with quantum side information between the observables. In the recent important work of Coles and Piani (2014 Phys. Rev . A 89 022112 ), the entropic sum is controlled by the first and second maximum overlaps between the two projective measurements. We generalize the entropic uncertainty relation in the presence of quantum memory and find the exact dependence on all d largest overlaps between two measurements on any d -dimensional Hilbert space. Our bound is rigorously shown to be strictly tighter than previous entropic bounds in the presence of quantum memory, which have potential applications to quantum cryptography with entanglement witnesses and quantum key distributions.

Quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty principle, teleportation, and entanglement witness in structured reservoirs

Ming‐Liang Hu, Heng Fan

We relate the principle of quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty to quantum teleportation and show geometrically that any two-qubit state which lowers the upper bound of this uncertainty relation is useful for teleportation. We also explore the efficiency of this entropic uncertainty principle on witnessing entanglement in a general class of bosonic structured reservoirs. The entanglement regions witnessed by different estimates are determined, which may have no relation with the explicit form of the spectral density of the reservoir for certain special chosen sets of the initial states.

Quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty and quantum correlation in structured reservoir

Bingbing Li, Feng Li, Jiadong Shi +1 more

Abstract In this work, we investigate the dynamics of quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation (EUR) and quantum correlation quantified by entropic discord and geometric discord within the Markovian reservoir and non-Markovian reservoir. Particularly, when the initial state is a pure sate or mixed state the EUR gradually increases during the evolution at first, but subsequently tends to stable in the long-time limit. On other hand, for the separable state the EUR almost keeps constant. In contrast, quantum discord decay asymptotically to zero for all types of initial states. As an application, we prove that both two quantum discords witnessed by the EUR are determined by the version of discord chosen, which regardless of the reservoir.

Fine-grained uncertainty relation and entropic uncertainty relation in the presence of quantum memory

Tanumoy Pramanik, Priyanka Chowdhury

In presence of quantum memory [M. Berta, M. Christandl, R. Colbeck, J.M. Renes, and R. Renner, Nature Phys. 6, 659 (2010)] the lower bound of entropic uncertainty relation depends on amount of entanglement between the particle (on which two incompatible observable are measured) and the quantum memory. On other hand, fine grained uncertainty relation [J. Oppenheim and S. Wehner, Science 330, 1072 (2010)] gives the upper bound of winning non-local (CHSH) game. We construct similar kind of quantum game and relate two uncertainty relation for measurement of any two observable on the quantum system in presence of quantum memory and show there are certain region where the lower bound of entropic uncertainty relation in presents of quantum memory given by Berta et. al. should not be achieve by spin projective measurement.

Entropic uncertainty and measurement reversibility

Mario Berta, Stephanie Wehner, Mark M. Wilde

The entropic uncertainty relation with quantum side information (EUR-QSI) from (Berta et al 2010 Nat. Phys. 6 659 ) is a unifying principle relating two distinctive features of quantum mechanics: quantum uncertainty due to measurement incompatibility, and entanglement. In these relations, quantum uncertainty takes the form of preparation uncertainty where one of two incompatible measurements is applied. In particular, the 'uncertainty witness' lower bound in the EUR-QSI is not a function of a post-measurement state. An insightful proof of the EUR-QSI from (Coles et al 2012 Phys. Rev. Lett. 108 210405 ) makes use of a fundamental mathematical consequence of the postulates of quantum mechanics known as the non-increase of quantum relative entropy under quantum channels. Here, we exploit this perspective to establish a tightening of the EUR-QSI which adds a new state-dependent term in the lower bound, related to how well one can reverse the action of a quantum measurement. As such, this new term is a direct function of the post-measurement state and can be thought of as quantifying how much disturbance a given measurement causes. Our result thus quantitatively unifies this feature of quantum mechanics with the others mentioned above. We have experimentally tested our theoretical predictions on the IBM quantum experience and find reasonable agreement between our predictions and experimental outcomes.
