Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the secrecy performance of single-input single-output (SISO) system over fading, such that the main channel and the eavesdropper channel are subject to Rician/Nakagami-m fading or Nakagami-m/Rician fading, and derive the analytical expressions of the probability of the existence of the non-zero secrecy capacity and the outage probability of secrecy capacity. Although many authors have analyzed the secrecy performance of SISO system over various fading, the secrecy performance in the cases we assume has not been clarified. Furthermore, the simulation and numerical results show that the results using the approximation between Rician and Nakagami-m fading is insufficient in evaluating those probabilities because of only approximation to main bodies of the probability density function, and that our analyses are valid.

Physical layer secrecy performance over Rayleigh/Rician fading channels

Dac‐Binh Ha, Trung Q. Duong, Duc‐Dung Tran +2 more

In this paper, we investigate the physical layer secrecy performance of a single-input single-output system that consists of single antenna devices and operates in the presence of a single antenna passive eavesdropper over dissimilar fading channels. In particular, we consider two scenarios in terms of dissimilar fading channel arrangements: 1) The legal/illegal channels are subject to Rayleigh/Rician fading, respectively; 2) The legal/illegal channels are subject to Rician/Rayleigh fading, respectively. Specifically, analytical expressions for the probability of the existence of a non-zero secrecy capacity and the secrecy outage probability are derived by using statistical characteristics of the signal-to-noise ratio. Numerical results are provided for selected scenarios to illustrate applications of the developed analytical expressions.

Secure outage probability over κ-μ fading channels

Shunya Iwata, Tomoaki Otsuki Ohtsuki, Pooi‐Yuen Kam

In this paper, we derive the analytical expressions for the secure outage probability in a single-input single-output (SISO) system over fading, in which both the main and eavesdropper channels are subject to κ-μ fading. Many authors have analyzed the secrecy performance of such a SISO system over various fading models. More recently, a lower bound on the secure outage probability over κ-μ fading has been reported. However, the exact analytical expression of secure outage probability over κ-μ fading has not been obtained. The problem with using the lower bound is that we are not sure about the tightness of the bound. Our result is an exact expression which is verified by Monte-Carlo simulations. Furthermore, it enables us to examine the behavior of the secure outage probability as a function of the fading parameters of both the main and eavesdropper channels for given values of the average signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) over these channels. Exact expressions for the case of Nakagami-m and Rician fading models for both the main and eavesdropper channels are also obtained and verified by simulations.

Secure Communications over Wireless Networks

Md. Zahurul I. Sarkar

Nakagami-m fading channel is chosen to analyze the secrecy capacity for fading channels since the Nakagami-m distribution can model fading conditions, which are more or less severe than that of Rayleigh and has the advantage of including Rayleigh as a special case. At first, secrecy capacity is defined in case of full channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter, where transmitter has access to both the main channel and eavesdropper channel gains. Secondly, secrecy capacity is defined with only main channel CSI at the transmitter. Then, optimal power allocation at the transmitter that achieves the secrecy capacity is derived for both the cases. Moreover, secrecy capacity is defined under open-loop transmission scheme, and the exact closed form analytical expression for the lower bound of ergodic secrecy capacity is derived for Nakagami-m fading single-input multiple-output (SIMO) channel. In addition, secrecy capacity is defined for the AWGN channel in order to realize the information-theoretic security of wireless channels with no fading. Finally, analytical expressions for the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity and secure outage probability are derived in order to investigate the secure outage performance of fading channels.

Secrecy performance analysis over cascaded fading channels

Serdar Özgür Ata

In this study, the authors investigate the secrecy performance at the physical layer of wireless communication systems where the channels are modelled as cascaded fading channels, in which the fading effects are worse than those in the cellular communication channels like Rayleigh and Nakagami‐ m . Analytic results are derived for the cascaded Nakagami‐ m fading channel model comprising the cascaded Rayleigh, 2*Nakagami‐ m , the generalised‐ K , and the conventional cellular channel models as well. By evaluating the information‐theoretic physical layer security performance, they obtain the closed‐form expressions of the average secrecy capacity and probability of the positive secrecy capacity in case of that channel‐state‐information of the eavesdropper is known by the source. Then they obtain the exact closed‐form secrecy outage probability (SOP) when the eavesdropper is passive. Analytic results are computed in terms of the bivariate and univariate Meijer's G functions and later on are successfully validated through Monte Carlo simulations. The simulation results show that the secrecy performance worsens with the increasing cascading degree of the fading channels. For example, in 2*Nakagami‐ m fading channels where the cascading degree is 2, extra 4 dB signal‐to‐noise ratio is required to achieve the same SOP value in comparison with the classical Nakagami‐ m fading channels.

Performance analysis of physical layer security over α – μ fading channel

Long Kong, Hung Tran, Georges Kaddoum

Recently, many works have focused on analysing the metrics of physical layer security over different wireless channels such as additive white Gaussian noise, Rayleigh, Rician and Nakagami‐ m fading distributions. To extend the analysis to the general case, the α – μ fading channel is considered, which can span the aforementioned cases. For this purpose, the physical layer security over the α – μ fading channel is presented. The closed‐form expressions for the probability of positive secrecy capacity and upper bound of the secrecy outage probability are derived. Their accuracies are assessed through comparison of theoretical analysis and simulations results.

Secrecy Performance Analysis Over Double Nakagami-m Fading Channels

Serdar Özgür Ata

Next-generation wireless communication systems with high user mobility inherit cascaded fading channel models, where the fading effects are more severe than classical channel models including Rayleigh and Nakagami-m. In this study, physical layer secrecy/security performance analysis has been investigated over double Nakagami-m fading channels. While analytic results are derived, the closed-form expression of the probability of positive secrecy capacity is obtained, then the exact secrecy outage probability is obtained in the closed-form. Furthermore, computer simulations are given to verify the analytic results.
