Quantum mechanics of a free particle from properties of the Dirac delta function

Denys I. Bondar, Robert R. Lompay, Wing-Ki Liu

Based on the assumption that the probability density of finding a free particle is independent of position, we infer the form of the eigenfunction for the free particle, ⟨x|p⟩=exp(ipx/ℏ)/2πℏ. The canonical commutation relation between the momentum and position operators and the Ehrenfest theorem in the free particle case are derived solely from differentiation of the delta function and the form of ⟨x|p⟩.

Angular momentum operator commutator against position and Hamiltonian of a free particle

Bambang Supriadi, Trapsilo Prihandono, V Rizqiyah +3 more

Observables in Quantum mechanicsare represented by operators. Its measurements cannot be determined simultaneously and the results are only a possibility. This study uses the rules of the commutator in determining the relation between angular momentum to the position and free particle Hamiltonian. The commutator will be zero if the operator that is connected can be determined simultaneously, and it will produce value if cannot be determined simultaneously. This study focused on the commutator of the angular momentum operator on the position and Hamiltonian of free particles in Cartesian coordinates. The result of the commutator of angular momentum operator to the position was zero (commut) if there wasn't a component of the angular momentum that is equal to the position made by the commutation pair. While the results of the commutator angular momentum operator towards the free particle Hamiltonian indicated that angular momentum is the constant of motion.

Localization of s -Wave and Quantum Effective Potential of a Quasi-free Particle with Position-Dependent Mass

Ju Guo-Xing, Xiang Yang, Zhongzhou Ren

The properties of the s -wave for a quasi-free particle with position-dependent mass (PDM) have been discussed in details. Differed from the system with constant mass in which the localization of the s -wave for the free quantum particle around the origin only occurs in two dimensions, the quasi-free particle with PDM can experience attractive forces in D dimensions except D = 1 when its mass function satisfies some conditions. The effective mass of a particle varying with its position can induce effective interaction, which may be attractive in some cases. The analytical expressions of the eigenfunctions and the corresponding probability densities for the s -waves of the two- and three-dimensional systems with a special PDM are given, and the existences of localization around the origin for these systems are shown.
