Supersymmetric conformal field theories from quantum stabilizer codes

Kohki Kawabata, Tatsuma Nishioka, Takuya Okuda

We construct fermionic conformal field theories (CFTs) whose spectra are characterized by quantum stabilizer codes. We exploit our construction to search for fermionic CFTs with supersymmetry by focusing on quantum stabilizer codes of the Calderbank-Shor-Steane type, and derive simple criteria for the theories to be supersymmetric. We provide several examples of fermionic CFTs that meet the criteria, and find quantum codes that realize $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetry. Our work constitutes a new application of quantum codes and paves the way for the methodical search for supersymmetric CFTs.

de Sitter holography from a Lorentzian torus

Kosei Fujiki, Michitaka Kohara, Javier Moreno +2 more

We show that the quantum entanglement between the conformal field theories (CFTs) living on the future and past boundaries in the de Sitter/conformal field theory (dS/CFT) correspondence can be described by Wick rotating to a geometry with two timelike directions. We propose a new realization of the dS/CFT correspondence in which quantum gravity on this two-time geometry is holographically dual to a CFT defined on a Lorentzian torus. We show that this duality reproduces key features of dS holography, including the dS entropy, correlation functions, and pseudoentropy. Finally, by extending the framework of path-integral optimization, we explain how dS spacetime emerges from the CFT on the Lorentzian torus.

Left-right entanglement entropy of boundary states

Leopoldo A. Pando Zayas, Norma Quiroz

We study entanglement entropy of boundary states in a free bosonic conformal field theory. A boundary state can be thought of as composed of a particular combination of left and right-moving modes of the two-dimensional conformal field theory. We investigate the reduced density matrix obtained by tracing over the right-moving modes in various boundary states. We consider Dirichlet and Neumann boundary states of a free noncompact as well as a compact boson. The results for the entanglement entropy indicate that the reduced system can be viewed as a thermal CFT gas. Our findings are in agreement and generalize results in quantum mechanics and quantum field theory where coherent states can also be considered. In the compact case we verify that the entanglement entropy expressions are consistent with T-duality.
