Light-pulsed atomic interferometers provide a promising quantum-based solution for inertial navigation applications. In this paper, we present an atomic interferometric inertial sensor designed to simultaneously measure rotation rate and acceleration, through continuous sampling using dual87Rb atomic beams as matter-wave sources. We observe Raman-Ramsey and Raman-Mach-Zehnder interferences and validate the inertial sensing capability by comparing the results with a classical quartz accelerometer and an optical-fiber gyroscope. Our work can serve as a foundational element for the development of a fully quantum inertial measurement unit characterized with a high data rate and large bandwidth.

New Generation Inertial Navigation Technology:Cold Atom Gyroscope

Mingsheng Zhan

In this paper,we described the progress of cold atom gyroscope. We launched the atoms along the same trajectory accurately and the opposite direction by controlling the frequency of directed digital system circuit.Using stimulated Raman beams,we operated the cold atoms and realized the atom interferometer fringes. With this configuration,it will greatly eliminate the common mode noise caused by uncertainty factor, such as the phase of the Raman laser beams, the gravity acceleration. It will significantly improve the precision in our experiment. The atom gyroscope will give a new way for the inertial navigation technology in the future.
