Abstract

Using hybrid variational model and Gaussian variational model, chemical potential μ in the unit of A§ωz for quasi two-dimensional condensate in an anisotropic traps have been evaluated. Our results for both models are very similar in magnitude and trends. Our evaluated results are also in good agreement with other theoretical workers.

Sanjay Kumar, Lalit Kumar Mishra

Using hybrid variational model, condensate size (μm) and release energy (A§ωz) of quasi-two dimensional condensate for varying trap geometries and atom numbers were calculated. Our theoretically evaluated results are in good agreement with the experimental data and also with others theoretical workers.

Properties of quasi-two-dimensional condensates in highly anisotropic traps

Gerald Hechenblaikner, J. M. Krueger, Christopher J. Foot

We theoretically investigate some of the observable properties of quasi-two-dimensional condensates. Using a variational model based on a Gaussian-parabolic trial wave function we calculate chemical potential, condensate size in time-of-flight, release energy, and collective excitation spectrum for varying trap geometries and atom numbers and find good agreement with recent published experimental results.

General expression of chemical potential for Bose Einstein condensate in an anisotropic magnetic trap

S.P. Tewari, Poonam Silotia, Aditya Saxena

A general expression for the chemical potential, μ, of Bose Einstein condensate in any form of the magnetic trap has been derived without resorting to any approximation regarding the number of particles in the condensate. Specific expression for μ has been deduced when the form of the magnetic trap corresponds to a right circular cylinder. Computations on the chemical potential, the speed of sound, healing length, interparticle separation in the core of the condensate, energy and the correlation length of the condensate have been made for different number of 87 Rb atoms ranging from hundred to ten million particles in the Bose Einstein condensate and compared with the corresponding results of numerically evaluated GPG equation and other approximate results wherever possible.

Bose–Einstein condensation in two-dimensional traps

Mi Xie

Abstract In two-dimensional traps, since the theoretical study of Bose–Einstein condensation will encounter the problem of divergence, the actual contribution of the divergent terms is often estimated in some indirect ways with the accuracy to the leading order. In this paper, by using an analytical continuation method to solve the divergence problem, we obtain the analytical expressions of critical temperature and condensate fraction for Bose gases in a 2D anisotropic box and harmonic trap, respectively. They are consistent with or better than previous studies. Then, we further consider the nonvanishing chemical potential, and obtain the expressions of chemical potential and more precise condensate fraction. These results agree with the numerical calculation well, especially for the case of harmonic traps. The comparison between the grand canonical and canonical ensembles shows that our calculation in the grand canonical ensemble is reliable.

Variational approach for the two-dimensional trapped Bose-Einstein condensate

Ludovic Pricoupenko

We construct a many-body Gaussian variational approach for the two-dimensional trapped Bose gas in the condensate phase. Interaction between particles is modelized by a generalized pseudopotential of zero range that allows recovering perturbative results in the ultradilute limit, while back action of noncondensate particles on the condensate part is taken into account for higher density. As an application, we derive the equation of state and solve stability problems encountered in similar mean-field formalisms for a single vortex configuration.

Effect of three-body interaction in strongly interacting Bose-Einstein condensate in isotropic and highly anisotropic magnetic trap

Shri Prakash Tewari, Poonam Silotia, Aditya Saxena +1 more

Ground state properties of Bose-Einstein condensate of 20000 23 Na atoms confined in isotropic and highly anisotropic magnetic traps in the presence of three-body interaction, in addition to the two-body and hard-core interactions, have been theoretically studied by solving modified highly non-linear Gross-Pitaevskii-Ginzburg (GPG) equation. There is increasingly significant change in the chemical potential, total and differential energies per particle as the aspect ratio. λ, is increased from 0.1 to 1.0, with respect to the corresponding values when only two-body and hard-core interactions are considered. The condensate order parameter changes drastically and becomes quasi 1-dimensional, as λ is varied from 1 to 0.1.
