Angle-resolved photoemission spectra in one-dimensional Hubbard-Holstein model

Sun Peijian, Ping Huai, Wei Zhang +2 more

In order to understand the effects of electron-phonon coupling and Coulomb interactions in angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), a spin-1/2 Hubbard-Holstein model at half-filling is theoretically investigated by means of the mean field theory and classical Monte Carlo simulation method. It shows that the spectral shape of the one-dimensional system is significantly modified by the electron-phonon coupling and Coulomb interactions. The suppression of charge-density wave in one-dimensional system has been ascribed to the short-range Coulomb repulsion and thermal lattice fluctuations. The competition between these interactions can induce zero energy gaps in APPES as well as complete cancellation of charge or spin ordering.

Spin, Charge and Quasi-Particle Gaps in the One-Dimensional Kondo Lattice withf2Configuration

Shinji Watanabe, Yoshio Kuramoto, Tomotoshi Nishino +1 more

The ground state properties of the one-dimensional Kondo lattice with an f^2 configuration at each site are studied by the density matrix renormalization group method. At half-filling, competition between the Kondo exchange J and the antiferromagnetic intra f-shell exchange I leads to reduction of energy gaps for spin, quasi-particle and charge excitations. The attractive force among conduction electrons is induced by the competition and the bound state is formed. As J/I increases the f^2 singlet gives way to the Kondo singlet as the dominant local correlation. The remarkable change of the quasi-particle gap is driven by the change of the spin-1/2 excitation character from the itinerant one to the localized one. Possible metal-insulator transition is discussed which may occur as the ratio J/I is varied by reference to mean-field results in the f^2 lattice system and the two impurity Kondo system.

Numerical Study of the Kitaev-Heisenberg chain as a spin model of the K-intercalated RuCl3

Cliò Efthimia Agrapidis, Jeroen van den Brink, Satoshi Nishimoto

We study the one-dimensional Kitaev-Heisenberg model as a possible realization of magnetic degrees of freedom of the K-intercalated honeycomb-lattice ruthenium trichloride α -RuCl 3 , denoted as K 0.5 RuCl m . First, we discuss the possible charge ordering patterns in K 0.5 RuCl m , where half of the spins are replaced by nonmagnetic ions in the honeycomb layer. The phase diagram is obtained as a function of nearest-, second-, and third-neighbor repulsions in the atomic limit. We find a strong competition between possible three charge ordering patterns when the repulsions are comparable. We further calculate the spin-spin correlation functions for the 1D Kitaev-Heisenberg model, which is one of the ordering patterns, and consider the effect of the Kitaev term by comparing the results to those for the antiferromagnetic SU(2) Heisenberg chain.
