Abstract

The color pump noise has been introduced into a two-mode laser system and its effects on the laser system in both homogeneously and inhomogeneously broadened media have been studied. The results show that the correlation time of the color pump noise can make the distribution of the laser intensity concentrate in the region where the laser intensity have larger values, enhance the mean of the laser intensity and stabilize the the system in a homogeneously broadened two-mode laser system; meanwhile, it strengthen the laser intensity of the stronger mode, recedes the laser intensity of the weaker mode and increases the competition between two mode in a inhomogeneously broadened two-mode laser system.Comparatively, it more clear that the influences of the color pump noise on the statistical properties of laser system in inhomogeneously broadened media than that in homogeneously broadened media.

Influence of Signal and Noise on Statistical Fluctuation of Single-Mode Laser System

Dahai Xu, Cheng Qing-Hua, Cao Li +1 more

On the basis of calculating the steady-state mean normalized intensity fluctuation of a signal-mode laser system driven by both colored pump noise with signal modulation and the quantum noise with cross-correlation between its real and imaginary parts, we analyze the influence of modulation signal, noise, and its correlation form on the statistical fluctuation of the laser system. We have found that when the amplitude of modulation signal weakens and its frequency quickens, the statistical fluctuation will reduce rapidly. The statistical fluctuation of the laser system can be restrained by reducing the intensity of pump noise and quantum noise. Moreover, with prolonging of colored cross-correlation time, the statistical fluctuation of laser system experiences a repeated changing process, that is, from decreasing to augmenting, then to decreasing, and finally to augmenting again. With the decreasing of the value of cross-correlation coefficient, the statistical fluctuation will decrease too. When the cross-correlation form between the real part and imaginary part of quantum noise is zero correlation, the statistical fluctuation of laser system has a minimum. Compared with the influence of intensity of pump noise, the influence of intensity of quantum noise on the statistical fluctuation is smaller.

Effects of colored pump noise on intensity correlations of a single-mode dye laser

Paul D. Lett, Edward C. Gage

Recent theoretical analyses of the single-mode laser with colored-noise pump fluctuations have allowed the detailed prediction of the short-time behavior of the intensity autocorrelations of such a laser. In particular, a rounding off of the intensity correlation function on the time scale of the correlation time of the pump fluctuations has been predicted. We present results from experiments performed on a single-mode dye-laser system that clearly confirm these predictions. Numerical simulations of the laser Langevin equations including the colored-noise pump fluctuations are used to fit the experimental results.

Simulation study of the two-time intensity correlation function of a two-mode laser system with both pump and quantum noises

Xiang You-Lin, Mei Dong-Cheng

This paper investigates the two-time intensity correlation function of a two-mode ring laser system subjected to both pump and quantum noises by stochastic simulation. It finds that the decay rate of the intensity correlation function of one mode gets faster with decreasing values of relevant parameters, i.e., the coupling constant ξ, the cross-correlation coefficient λ, the difference of the pump parameters Δa and the pump parameter a1; however, its variations get complex in the other mode when relevant parameters are changed. The investigating results also show that the effects of the mode competition on intensity correlation function are obvious.

Effective eigenvalue for the intensity correlations of single-mode and two-mode lasers

Maxi San Miguel, Luis Pesquera, Miguel A. Rodríguez +1 more

Exact formulas for the effective eigenvalue characterizing the initial decay of intensity correlation functions are given in terms of stationary moments of the intensity. Spontaneous emission noise and nonwhite pump noise are considered. Our results are discussed in connection with earlier calculations, simulations, and experimental results for single-mode dye lasers, two-mode inhomogeneously broadened lasers, and two-mode dye ring lasers. The effective eigenvalue is seen to depend sensitively on noise characteristics and symmetry properties of the system. In particular, the effective eigenvalue associated with cross correlations of two-mode lasers is seen to vanish in the absence of pump noise as a consequence of detailed balance. In the presence of pump noise, the vanishing of this eigenvalue requires equal pump parameters for the two modes and statistical independence of spontaneous emission noise acting on each mode.

Study of the normalized intensity correlation function of a single-mode laser system with colored cross-correlated noises

Bing Wang, Xiuqing Wu

A single-mode laser system with colored cross-correlated additive and multiplicative noise terms is considered. By the means of projection operator method, we study the effects of the cross-correlation time 'tau' and the cross-correlation intensity 'lambda' between noises on the normalized intensity correlation function C(s). It is found that if 'lambda'g0 ('lambda'l0), the normalized intensity correlation function C(s) increases (decreases) with increasing the cross-correlation time 'tau', and at large value of 'tau', the variation of the normalized intensity correlation function C(s) becomes small. With the increase of the net gain a0, C(s) exhibits a maximum when 'lambda' is larger. However, a minimum and a maximum appear on C(s) curves with the increase of a0 when 'lambda' becomes smaller and smaller.

Intensity correlation time of a single-mode laser driven by two colored noises with colored cross-correlation with additive signal

Wu Da-Jin

The intensity correlation time T is studied for gain-noise model of a single-mode laser driven by colored pump noise and colored quantum noise with colored cross-correlation. By using the linear approximation method, we detect that there exist maximum (i.e. resonance) in the T-D and T-I0 curves when the noise correlation coefficien λ is positive; and there exist minimum (i.e. suppression) in the T-D curves and exist one minimum and one maximum in the T-I0 curves when λ is negative. When λ is zero, The intensity correlation time T increases monotonously with the increasing of the quantum noise intensity D and steady-state intensity I0. However, no matter what the value λ is, the intensity correlation time T decreases monotonously with the increasing of the periodic signal amplitude A and the attenuation coefficient γ. Furthermore, we analyze the effect of signal frequency Ω. and the cross-correlation time T3 on the intensity correlation time T, find that has little effect on the T-D, T-I0, T-A and T-γ curves, and T3 has great effects on the T-D, T-I0 and T-A curves but has little effect on the T-γ curves.
