On weakly bound states of several quasi-particles in a three-dimensional crystal

Alexander Mogilner

The creation of N-particle bound states by several (N ≥ 3) weakly interacting quasiparticles (two of which are in a weakly bound state) with a strongly degenerate dispersion relation in a three-dimensional crystal is considered.

On the bound states of two weakly interacting quasiparticles with a strongly degenerate dispersion relation

R. A. Minlos, Alexander Mogilner

The emergence of several bound states of two weakly interacting quasiparticles with a strongly degenerate dispersion relation is considered. The estimates of the number of bound states, their binding energy and effective mass, and the region of their existence in the center-of-mass quasi-momentum space are obtained from an analysis of the Fredholm determinant of the Schrödinger equation.

"This thesis is divided into two parts. The first describes a study of the dilute Fermi gas with short range repulsive interactions in 2D, with special emphasis on questions related to the validity of Fermi liquid theory. We find that despite the existence of non-perturbative effects due to two-dimensionality, namely linearly dispersing excitations of ""bound"" holes, the system remains in a Fermi liquid state. The quasi-particles are both long lived and weakly interacting. We also provide a microscopic calculation of the Fermi liquid parameters which determine the response functions in the standard way."
