Instability and Momentum Bifurcation of molecular BEC in Exotic Dispersion with Shaken Lattice

Kaiyue Wang, Feng Xiong, Long Yun +2 more

We place a molecular Bose-Einstein condensate in a 1D shaken lattice with a Floquet-engineered dispersion, and observe the dynamics in both position and momentum space. At the initial condition of zero momentum, our engineered dispersion is inverted, and therefore unstable. We observe that the condensate is destabilized by the lattice shaking as expected, but rather than decaying incoherently or producing jets, as in other unstable condensates, under our conditions the condensate bifurcates into two portions in momentum space, with each portion subsequently following semi-classical trajectories that suffer minimal spreading in momentum space as they evolve. We can model the evolution with a Gross-Pitaevskii equation, which suggests the initial bifurcation is facilitate by a nearly linear "inverted V"-shaped dispersion at the zone center, while the lack of spreading in momentum space is facilitated by interactions, as in a soliton. We propose that this relatively clean bifurcation in momentum space has applications for counter-diabatic preparation of exotic ground states in many-body quantum simulation schemes.

Phase diagrams of spin-2 Floquet spinor Bose-Einstein condensates

Yan-Ling Pan, Qi Li, Gong-Ping Zheng +1 more

We propose the realization of a spin-2 Floquet spinor Bose-Einstein condensate via Floquet engineering of the quadratic Zeeman energy. In the Floquet system, the coupling strengths of all angular-momentum-conserving spin-flip processes are renormalized by driving-parameter-dependent Bessel functions. Such Floquet-engineered interactions significantly enriches possible ground states in homogeneous gases. The resulting phase diagrams, which map the distributions of these possible ground states, are presented in the space of the driving parameters.

Degree of simplicity of Floquet states of a periodically driven Bose-Hubbard dimer

Steffen Seligmann, Hamed Koochaki Kelardeh, Martin Holthaus

We demonstrate longtime coherent subharmonic motion of a many-boson system subjected to an external time-periodic driving force. The underlying mechanism is exemplified numerically through analysis of a periodically driven Bose-Hubbard dimer, and clarified conceptually by semiclassical requantization of invariant tubes pertaining to the system’s mean-field description. In this way, one arrives at pre-Floquet states that relate to the actual many-body Floquet states in a manner similar to the relation of site-localized Wannier states to lattice-extended Bloch states in solid-state physics. It is argued that even high-order subharmonic response can be systematically engineered, and be observed experimentally, with weakly interacting Floquet condensates comprising a sufficiently large number of particles.
