Abstract

In this paper, we give a unified performance optimization for secrecy wireless information and power transfer over interference channels, where an external eavesdropper is also interested in the confidential message. We propose to perform cooperative energy beamforming between two sources to confuse the eavesdropper while satisfying the requirements on the minimum amounts of individual harvested energy, and the minimum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio at the wiretap-free node, even under an adverse condition that there exist channel uncertainties at the transmitters. Considering the maximization of secrecy rate subject to a power constraint and the minimization of power consumption with a minimum secrecy rate requirement are two commonly used design objectives for secure communications, we give a unified performance optimization from the both perspectives. Especially, since there exists channel uncertainty, we propose to optimize the worst performance, so as to satisfy the performance requirements under all channel conditions. To achieve a balance between system performance and implementation complexity, we present a robust cooperative beamforming and power splitting scheme for each secrecy problem while confining the information signal in the null space of the interference channel. Finally, simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes.

Robust secure beamforming and power splitting for SWIPT over interference channels

Xiaoming Chen, Yanan Wu, Caijun Zhong

In this paper, we address the problem of secrecy wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) over interference channels, where an external eavesdropper is also interested in the transmitted message. Under a practical assumption that only imperfect eavesdropper channel state information (CSI) is available, our objective is to minimize the total transmit power while satisfying the constraints on the minimum amounts of individual harvested energy, the worst-case achievable secrecy rate of the wiretapped node, and the minimum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) at the wiretap-free node. An optimal robust secure beamforming and power splitting scheme is obtained via the aid of a one-dimensional search. Moreover, in order to reduce the computational complexity, we also propose a suboptimal scheme based on zero-forcing beamforming (ZFB). Finally, simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes.

Secrecy wireless information and power transfer in fading wiretap channel

Hong Xing, Liang Liu, Rui Zhang

Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) has recently drawn significant interests for its dual use of radio signals to provide wireless data and energy access at the same time. However, a challenging secrecy communication problem arises in the SWIPT system since the messages sent to information receivers (IRs) may be eavesdropped by energy receivers (ERs), which are presumed to receive energy from the same signals broadcast by the transmitter. To tackle this problem, we propose in this paper an artificial noise (AN) aided transmission scheme to facilitate the secrecy information transmission to IRs and yet meet the energy harvesting requirement for ERs, under the assumption that the AN can be cancelled at IRs but not at ERs. Specifically, the proposed scheme splits the power at the transmitter into two parts, to send the confidential message to the IR and an AN to interfere with the ER against eavesdropping, respectively. Under a simplified three-node wiretap channel setup, the transmit power allocations and power splitting ratios over fading channels are jointly optimized to maximize the average secrecy information rate for the IR subject to a combination of average and peak power constraints at the transmitter as well as an average energy harvesting constraint at the ER. The formulated problem is shown to be non-convex, for which we propose an efficient algorithm by iteratively optimizing the transmit power allocations and power splitting ratios over fading channels. Finally, the performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by simulations and compared against other heuristic schemes in terms of achievable (secrecy) rate-energy trade-off.

Secrecy Wireless Information and Power Transfer in Fading Wiretap Channel

Hong Xing, Liang Liu, Rui Zhang

Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) has recently drawn significant interest for its dual use of radio signals to provide wireless data and energy access at the same time. However, a challenging secrecy communication issue arises as the messages sent to the information receivers (IRs) may be eavesdropped upon by energy receivers (ERs), which are presumed to harvest energy only from received signals. To tackle this problem, we propose in this paper an artificial-noise (AN)-aided transmission scheme to facilitate the secrecy information transmission to IRs and, yet, meet the energy harvesting requirement for ERs, under the assumption that the AN can be canceled at IRs but not at ERs. Specifically, the proposed scheme splits the transmit power into two parts: to send the confidential message to the IR and an AN to interfere with the ER, respectively. Under a simplified three-node wiretap channel setup, the transmit power allocations and power splitting ratios over fading channels are jointly optimized to minimize the outage probability for delay-limited secrecy information transmission or to maximize the average rate for no-delay-limited secrecy information transmission, subject to a combination of average and peak power constraints (APC and PPC) at the transmitter (Tx) and an average energy harvesting constraint at the ER. Both the secrecy outage probability minimization and average rate maximization problems are shown to be nonconvex, and for each, we propose the optimal solution based on the dual decomposition and the suboptimal solution based on the alternating optimization. Furthermore, two benchmark schemes are introduced for comparison where the AN is not used at the Tx and where the AN is used but cannot be canceled by the IR, respectively. Finally, the performances of proposed schemes are evaluated by simulations in terms of various tradeoffs for wireless (secrecy) information versus energy transmissions.

Secure Beamforming Design for SWIPT in MISO Broadcast Channel With Confidential Messages and External Eavesdroppers

Haiyang Zhang, Yongming Huang, Chunguo Li +1 more

This paper studies the secure beamforming design for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer in a multiple-input single-output broadcast channel with confidential messages and external eavesdroppers, where each receiver adopts the power splitting (PS) scheme to decode information and harvest energy concurrently, and it is also seen as a potential eavesdropper for messages not intended for it. Our objective is to minimize the total transmit power while guaranteeing the individual secrecy rate and energy harvesting constraints at each receiver by jointly optimizing transmit beamforming vectors, artificial noise covariance, and receive PS ratios. Both scenarios of perfect and imperfect channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter are considered. For the perfect CSI case, we propose a two-stage optimization approach to solve the original non-convex problem global optimality, and also provide a low-complexity suboptimal solution based on the particle swarm optimization algorithm. Furthermore, we also extend the above result to the colluding eavesdroppers scenario. For the imperfect CSI case, we propose a worst-case-based robust formulation, where the CSI errors are norm-bounded. With the aid of S-Procedure, we derive the equivalent forms for constraints and then transform the non-convex robust design into a convex optimization problem. Simulation results are finally presented to demonstrate the performance of our proposed schemes.

Joint cooperative beamforming and artificial noise design for secure AF relay networks with energy-harvesting eavesdroppers

Hehao Niu, Bangning Zhang, Daoxing Guo +2 more

In this paper, we investigate physical layer security for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer in amplify-and-forward relay networks. We propose a joint robust cooperative beamforming and artificial noise scheme for secure communication and efficient wireless energy transfer. Specifically, by treating the energy receiver as a potential eavesdropper and assuming that only imperfect channel state information can be obtained, we formulate an optimization problem to maximize the worst-case secrecy rate between the source and the legitimate information receiver under both the power constraint at the relays and the wireless power harvest constraint at the energy receiver. Since such a problem is non-convex and hard to tackle, we propose a two-level optimization approach which involves a one-dimensional search and semidefinite relaxation. Simulation results show that the proposed robust scheme achieves better worst-case secrecy rate performance than other schemes.

Robust Cooperative Secure Beamforming for Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer in Amplify-and-Forward Relay Networks

Youhong Feng, Zhen Yang, Wei‐Ping Zhu +2 more

In this paper, we investigate cooperative secure beamforming for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) in amplify-and-forward (AF) relay networks. We propose a joint cooperative beamforming (CB) and energy signal (CB-ES) scheme for providing both secure communication and efficient wireless energy transfer. By considering colluding eavesdroppers with imperfect channel state information (CSI), we formulate an optimization problem for maximizing the secrecy rate between the source and the legitimate information receiver (IR) under both the power constraints at the relays and the wireless power transfer constraint at the energy-harvesting receiver (ER). Since such a problem is nonconvex and hard to tackle, we propose a two-level optimization approach that involves a 1-D search and the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique to solve this problem. The proposed robust scheme is compared with some other nonrobust schemes, such as a CB and artificial noise (CB-AN) scheme and a perfect scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed robust scheme achieves better worst-case secrecy rate performance than the other nonrobust schemes and the CB-AN scheme, while it approaches the perfect scheme.
