Scattering of a wave packet by the Pöschl-Teller potential well

Tsin-Fu Jiang

Abstract We investigate the scattering of a wave packet by the Pöschl-Teller potential in momentum representation. The scattering dynamics of the wave packet for a long-time evolution is feasible in this representation. With the wave function in momentum space, we can construct the time-dependent phase space Wigner function. The corresponding density function in coordinate space is then calculated through the Wigner function. The reflectionless wave packet for integer ν and partially reflected for non-integer ν are demonstrated by analyzing the Wigner function.

Time-Dependent Gaussian Solution for the Kostin Equation around Classical Trajectories

Fernando Haas, José Maria Filardo Bassalo, Antonio Boulhosa Nassar +1 more

The structure of time-dependent Gaussian solutions for the Kostin equation in dissipative quantum mechanics is analyzed. Expanding the generic external potential near the center of mass of the wave packet, one conclude that: the center of mass follows the dynamics of a classical particle under the external potential and a damping proportional to the velocity; the width of the wave packet satisfy a non-conservative Pinney equation. An appropriate perturbation theory is developed for the free particle case, solving the long standing problem of finding analytic expressions for square integrable solutions of the free Kostin equation. The associated Wigner function is also studied.

Wave Packet Propagation in Anisotropic Media: Interplay of Comb Geometry and a Dirac δ-Barrier

Ognen Kapetanoski, Ervin Kaminski Lenzi, Irina Petreska

We investigate numerically the time-dependent Schrödinger equation on a two-dimensional comb in the presence of a localized Dirac delta potential on the backbone. The geometric constraint and the point interaction are both regularized via narrow Gaussian approximations, and the resulting equation is discretized with second-order finite differences and integrated with a fourth-order Runge–Kutta scheme on a finite domain. Two initial states are considered—a Gaussian wave packet and a comb-like wave function—and two barrier configurations are studied: a potential centered at the origin and one displaced along the backbone. In both cases, the Dirac delta interaction suppresses the probability density at the barrier position and reorganizes the wave packet into a persistent split-peak profile, in contrast to the single spreading maximum observed in the free case. When the barrier is displaced, due to reflection from the barrier, the left–right symmetry is broken and the density remains asymmetrically concentrated near the interaction site. To elucidate the results further, we also analyze the second moment, which undoubtedly confirms that the anomalous dynamics features, such as the subdiffusive behavior on comb-like structures in classical systems are retained in the quantum case as well.
