Nonlinearities in reservoir engineering: Enhancing quantum correlations

Xiangming Hu, Qingping Hu, Lingchao Li +2 more

There are two decisive factors for quantum correlations in reservoir engineering, but they are strongly reversely dependent on the atom-field nonlinearities. One is the squeezing parameter for the Bogoliubov modes-mediated collective interactions, while the other is the dissipative rates for the engineered collective dissipations. Exemplifying two-level atomic ensembles, we show that the moderate nonlinearities can compromise these two factors and thus enhance remarkably two-mode squeezing and entanglement of different spin atomic ensembles or different optical fields. This suggests that the moderate nonlinearities of the two-level systems are more advantageous for applications in quantum networks associated with reservoir engineering.

Correlated photons and collective excitations of a cyclic atomic ensemble

Yong Li, Li Zheng, Yu-xi Liu +1 more

We systematically study the interaction between two quantized optical fields and a cyclic atomic ensemble driven by a classic optical field. This so-called atomic cyclic ensemble consists of three-level atoms with $\ensuremath{\Delta}$-type transitions due to the symmetry breaking, which can also be implemented in the superconducting quantum circuit by Yu-xi Liu et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 95, 087001 (2005)]. We explore the dynamic mechanisms to creating the quantum entanglements among photon states, and between photons and atomic collective excitations by the coherent manipulation of the atom-photon system. It is shown that the quantum information can be completely transferred from one quantized optical mode to another, and the quantum information carried by the two quantized optical fields can be stored in the collective modes of this atomic ensemble by adiabatically controlling the classic field Rabi frequencies.

Two-mode entanglement of dressed parametric amplification four-wave mixing in an atomic ensemble

Zepei Li, Xiaoli Wang, Chenyu Li +4 more

Abstract We demonstrate the influence of dressed states on two-mode optical entanglement in a double Λ-type energy level atomic ensemble of parametric amplification four-wave mixing (PA-FWM) processes. By injecting a coherent or Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen field into PA-FWM channels, we investigate the corresponding entanglement. The quantum entanglement may be enhanced or suppressed via a bright state or a dark state. In free space, the two-mode entanglement is determined by nonlinear gain, which can be manipulated by field dressing in an atomic ensemble (i.e. Autler–Towns splitting, dressed enhancement/suppression of entanglement). However, in a ring cavity, the cavity dressing brings about the AT-like splitting of entanglement. Such an entanglement profile may be modified by field dressing through vacuum Rabi splitting, vacuum-induced enhancement and suppression of entanglement.
