Atom-assisted quadrature squeezing of a mechanical oscillator inside a dispersive cavity

Anil Kumar Chauhan, Asoka Biswas

We present a hybrid optomechanical scheme to achieve dynamical squeezing of position quadrature of a mesoscopic mechanical oscillator, that can be externally controlled by classical fields. A membrane-in-the-middle setup is employed, in which an atom in $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$ configuration is considered to be trapped on either side of the membrane inside the cavity. We show that a considerable amount of squeezing (beyond the 3-dB limit) can be achieved and maintained at a transient time scale that is not affected by the spontaneous emission of the atom. Squeezing depends upon the initial preparation of atomic states. Further, a strong effective coupling (larger than the relevant decay rates) between the atom and the oscillator can be attained by using large control fields that pump the atom and the cavity. The effects of cavity decay and the phononic bath on squeezing are studied. The results are supported by the detailed analytical calculations.

Effects of quadratic coupling and squeezed vacuum injection in an optomechanical cavity assisted with a Bose-Einstein condensate

Ali Dalafi, M. H. Naderi, Ali Motazedifard

We investigate theoretically a hybrid system consisting of a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) trapped inside a laser-driven membrane-in-the-middle optomechanical cavity assisted with squeezed vacuum injection whose moving membrane interacts both linearly and quadratically with the radiation pressure of the cavity. It is shown that such a hybrid system is very suitable for generating strong quadrature squeezing in the mechanical mode of the membrane and the Bogoliubov mode of the BEC in the unresolved sideband regime. More interestingly, by choosing a suitable sign for the quadratic optomechanical coupling (QOC), one can achieve a very high degree of squeezing in the mechanical mode and a strong entanglement between the mechanical and atomic modes without the necessity of using squeezed light injection. Furthermore, the QOC changes the effective oscillation frequencies of both the mechanical and the atomic modes and affects their relaxation times. It can also make the system switch from optical bistability to tristability.

Mechanical squeezing of the tripod-type four-level atom-assisted optomechanical system

Mina Parvaz, Hassan Randjbar Askari, Hamid Reza Baghshahi

Abstract Quadrature squeezing of a mesoscopic mechanical oscillator is investigated in a driven hybrid optomechanical system with a membrane-in-middle configuration containing a tripod-type four-level atom on either side of the membrane. We analyze in detail the influence of the coupling constant between cavity field and atom, amplitude of pump field, cavity pump detuning and Rabi frequency of classical field on the squeezing of the position quadrature of the vibrating membrane. The results show that the mechanical squeezing can be controlled by choosing the evolved parameters and initial state of atom, appropriately. Also, it is shown that a noticeable amount of squeezing can be obtained by increasing the amplitude of the classical pump field and therefore effective coupling constant. More over, we investigate that such a system can lead to a larger squeezing than the case with Λ-type three-level atom.
