Quantum theory and quantum computing in recent years, has raised more and more increasing interest within the scientific community because of various reasons. First, the highly interdisciplinary nature of the subject which involves diverse topics such as, on the theoretical side, information theory and foundational issues of quantum mechanics and on the experimental side, the physics of quantum, optical, atomic and solid state systems. Secondly, the field is extremely promising for revolutionary technological implications in the near future. It is now perfectly clear that one can use quantum mechanics to process and transmit information in a way which does not have a classical analogue, and that using quantum techniques one can implement fully secure cryptographic systems. Recent breakthroughs, such as quantum teleportation, have led to extremely rapid progresses in a fascinating new field and, as a consequence, have attracted the interest of many scientists from varied disciplines. The purpose of this article is to provide a comprehensive overview about the deep involvement of quantum theory in quantum computation to young researchers and newcomers in the field.

Quantum computing, and to an even greater extent quantum technology, is changing the world. Quantum computing is not an evolution of classical computer science; it is actually a revolution that completely changes the computing paradigm. Quantum computers are based on the principles of quantum mechanics, such as superposition and entanglement, and they seek to boost computational power exponentially. Many problems that have until now been impossible to solve, in practical terms, might very well be able to be addressed by means of quantum computing. The fact is that at the present time quantum computing is influencing most business sectors and research fields, due to its various promising applications. To make such applications become reality, quantum algorithms must be specially coded for these extremely different computers. Although some well-known quantum algorithms already exist, the need for quantum software will increase dramatically in the next years. In that context, quantum software has to be produced in a more industrial and controlled way, i.e., aspects such as quality, delivery, project management, or evolution of quantum software must be addressed. We are sure that quantum computing will be the main driver for a new software engineering golden age during the present decade of the 2020s.
The quantum computer, is a "supercomputer" that relies on the phenomena of quantum mechanics to perform operations on data. Object of suppositions, sometimes farfetched, quantum mechanics gave birth to the quantum computer, a machine capable of processing data tens of millions of times faster than a conventional computer. A quantum computer doesn't use the same memory as a conventional computer. Rather than a sequence of 0 and 1, it works with qubits or quantum bits. The quantum computer is a combination of two major scientific fields: quantum mechanics and computer science. Quantum mechanics, on which this computer is based, governs the movement of bodies in the atomic, molecular and corpuscular domains, is a theory whose logic is totally contrary to intuition and it is essential to use mathematics to fully grasp it. Quantum computing is the sub-domain of computer science that deals with quantum computers using quantum mechanical phenomena, as opposed to those of electricity exclusively, for so-called "classical" computing. The quantum phenomena used are quantum entanglement and superposition. The article examines some aspects related to the development, operation, advantages and difficulties, applications and future of the quantum computer.
