Lattice-induced rapid formation of spin singlets in spin-1 spinor condensates

We experimentally demonstrate that combining a cubic optical lattice with a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate substantially relaxes three strict constraints and brings spin singlets of ultracold spin-1 atoms into experimentally accessible regions. About 80 percent of atoms in the lattice-confined spin-1 spinor condensate are found to form spin singlets, immediately after the atoms cross first-order superfluid to Mott-insulator phase transitions in a microwave dressing field. A phenomenological model is also introduced to well describe our observations without adjustable parameters.

Quaternary-singlet State of Spin-1 Bosons in Optical Lattice

Zhang, Jie

We present the quantum ground state properties of $^{23}$Na spinor condensates, which is confined in a periodic or double-well potential and subject to a magnetic dipole-dipole interaction between nearby wells. A novel singlet state arise in the system and can be discussed in explicit form. Caused by the competition between the intra-site spin exchange interactions and the inter-site dipole-dipole interactions, this quaternary-singlet\ state is a entangled state formed by at lest four particles and vanish the total spin. This is distinct from the direct product of the two conventional singlet pairs.

Preparing the spin-singlet state of a spinor gas in an optical cavity

Stuart J. Masson, A. S. Parkins

We propose a method to prepare the spin singlet in an ensemble of integer-spin atoms confined within a high-finesse optical cavity. Using a cavity-assisted Raman transition to produce an effective Tavis-Cummings model, we show that a high-fidelity spin singlet can be produced probabilistically, although with low efficiency, heralded by the absence of photons escaping the cavity. In a different limit, a similar configuration of laser and cavity fields can be used to engineer a model that emulates spinor collisional dynamics. Borrowing from techniques used in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates, we show that adiabatic transformation of the system Hamiltonian (via a time-dependent, effective quadratic Zeeman shift) can be used to produce a low-fidelity spin singlet. Then, by following this method with the aforementioned heralding technique, we show that it is possible to prepare the singlet state with both high fidelity and good efficiency for a large ensemble.
