"4. The stochastic process interpretation," handwritten draft, circa 1955

Hugh Everett

Abstract

Among Hugh Everett's files were a number of handwritten documents related to the writing of his thesis. Many of them were drafts of material that ultimately appeared in the long thesis. This document, entitled "4. The stochastic process interpretation," was found in a file labeled "Footnotes," which consisted mostly of partial drafts of material (not necessarily footnotes) that was discussed in the long thesis. This document discusses Bopp's stochastic variable theory, in some ways similar to the more recent GRW interpretation

Everett, Hugh

Among Hugh Everett's files were a number of handwritten documents related to the writing of his thesis. Many of them were drafts of material that ultimately appeared in the long thesis. This document, entitled "5. The wave interpretation," was found in a file labeled "Footnotes," which consisted mostly of partial drafts of material (not necessarily footnotes) that was discussed in the long thesis. This document discusses Everett's own view, in contrast to Bohm's theory and Bopp's theory.

Fragment entitled "Other views," circa 1955

Hugh Everett

Among Hugh Everett's files were a number of handwritten documents related to the writing of his thesis. Many of them were drafts of material that ultimately appeared in the long thesis. This document, entitled "Other views," was found in a file labeled "Footnotes," which consisted mostly of partial drafts of material (not necessarily footnotes) that was discussed in the long thesis. It sketches several alternative interpretations of quantum mechanics.

Among Hugh Everett's files were a number of handwritten documents related to the writing of his thesis. Many of them were drafts of material that ultimately appeared in the long thesis. This document, titled "2 Information and Correlation in Quantum Mechanics" by Everett, was found in a file labeled "Recent Drafts," which consisted of documents that match closely with the final version of the long thesis.

"3. Remarks on actual measuring processes," handwritten draft, circa 1955

Everett, Hugh

Among Hugh Everett's files were a number of handwritten documents related to the writing of his thesis. Many of them were drafts of material that ultimately appeared in the long thesis. This document, titled "3. Remarks on actual measuring processes" by Everett, was found in a file labeled "Early drafts," corresponding to material from the earliest stages of Everett's work on the thesis. It contains red marks in a different hand, suggesting that he showed this document to Wheeler.
