Abstract

The Point canonical transformation method is applied for solving the Schrödinger equation with position-dependent mass. This class of problem has been solved for continuous mass distributions. In this work, a staggered mass distribution for the case of a free particle in an infinite square well potential has been proposed. The continuity conditions as well as normalization for the wave function are also considered. The proposal can be used for dealing with other kind of staggered mass distributions in the Schrödinger equation with different quantum potentials.

PT-symmetric Solutions of Schrodinger Equation with position-dependent mass via Point Canonical Transformation

Cevdet Tezcand, R. Sever

PT-symmetric solutions of Schrodinger equation are obtained for the Scarf and generalized harmonic oscillator potentials with the position-dependent mass. A general point canonical transformation is applied by using a free parameter. Three different forms of mass distributions are used. A set of the energy eigenvalues of the bound states and corresponding wave functions for target potentials are obtained as a function of the free parameter.

On the position-dependent mass Schrödinger equation for Mie-type potentials

Gerardo Ovando, José Juan Peña, J. Morales +1 more

Abstract The exactly solvable Position Dependent Mass Schrödinger Equation (PDMSE) for Mie-type potentials is presented. To that, by means of a point canonical transformation the exactly solvable constant mass Schrödinger equation is transformed into a PDMSE. The mapping between both Schrödinger equations lets obtain the energy spectra and wave functions for the potential under study. This happens for any selection of the O von Roos ambiguity parameters involved in the kinetic energy operator. The exactly solvable multiparameter exponential-type potential for the constant mass Schrödinger equation constitutes the reference problem allowing to solve the PDMSE for Mie potentials and mass functions of the form given by m(x) = skx s-1/(xs + 1))2. Thereby, as a useful application of our proposal, the particular Lennard-Jones potential is presented as an example of Mie potential by considering the mass distribution m(x) = 6kx 5/(x 6 + 1))2. The proposed method is general and can be straightforwardly applied to the solution of the PDMSE for other potential models and/or with different position-dependent mass distributions.

Mapping of the position-dependent mass Schrödinger equation under point canonical transformation

Chen Gang

In this paper, the three-dimensional radial position-dependent mass Schrödinger equation is exactly solved through mapping this wave equation into the constant mass Schrödinger equation with Coulomb potential by means of point canonical transformation. The wavefunctions here can be given in terms of confluent hypergeometric functions.

Solutions of Morse potential with position-dependent mass by Laplace transform

Sedigheh Miraboutalebi

In the framework of the position-dependent mass quantum mechanics, the three dimensional Schrödinger equation is studied by applying the Laplace transforms combining with the point canonical transforms. For the potential analogues to Morse potential and via the Pekeris approximation, we introduce the general solutions appropriate for any kind of position dependent mass profile which obeys a key condition. For a specific position-dependent mass profile, the bound state solutions are obtained through an analytical form. The constant mass solutions are also relived.

Position‐dependent mass Schrödinger equations allowing harmonic oscillator (HO) eigenvalues

José Juan Peña, Gerardo Ovando, J. Morales +2 more

Abstract Quantum chemical systems with a position‐dependent mass have attracted the attention due to their relevance in describing the features of many microstructures of current interest. In this work, the point canonical transformation method applied to Schrödinger equations with a position‐dependent mass (SEPDM) is presented. Essentially, the proposal is aimed to transform the Schrödinger equation with a position‐dependent mass into a standard Schrödinger‐like equation for constant mass in such a way that the position‐dependent mass distribution (PDMD) becomes incorporated into the effective potential. As an useful application of the proposal, it is considered as effective potential the one‐dimensional harmonic oscillator potential model, which leads to those isospectral potentials related to different forms of PDMD. For example, the exactly solvable isospectral potentials involved in the SEPDM for some PDMD such as , , , , , xα, and , are worked out explicitly including their raising and lowering operators that factorize the SEPDM for each PDMD allowing HO eigenvalues. However, the proposal is general and can be straightforwardly applied to other effective potential models as well as other PDMD that could be useful in quantum chemical applications. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Position-Dependent Mass Schrödinger Equation for the Morse Potential

Gerardo Ovando, José Juan Peña, J. Morales +1 more

The position dependent mass Schrödinger equation (PDMSE) has a wide range of quantum applications such as the study of semiconductors, quantum wells, quantum dots and impurities in crystals, among many others. On the other hand, the Morse potential is one of the most important potential models used to study the electronic properties of diatomic molecules. In this work, the solution of the effective mass one-dimensional Schrödinger equation for the Morse potential is presented. This is done by means of the canonical transformation method in algebraic form. The PDMSE is solved for any model of the proposed kinetic energy operators as for example the BenDaniel-Duke, Gora-Williams, Zhu-Kroemer or Li-Kuhn. Also, in order to solve the PDMSE with Morse potential, we consider a superpotential leading to a special form of the exactly solvable Schrödinger equation of constant mass for a class of multiparameter exponential-type potential along with a proper mass distribution. The proposed approach is general and can be applied in the search of new potentials suitable on science of materials by looking into the viable choices of the mass function.
