Mika Hirvensalo maps out the new multidisciplinary research area of quantum computing. The text contains an introduction to quantum computing as well as the most important recent results on the topic. The presentation is uniform and computer science-oriented. Thus, the book differs from most of the previous ones which are mainly physics-oriented. The special style of presentation makes the theory of quantum computing accessible to a larger audience. Many examples and exercises ease the understanding. In this second edition, a new chapter on quantum information has been added and numerous corrections, amendments, and extensions have been incorporated throughout the entire text.

The multidisciplinary field of quantum computing strives to exploit some of the uncanny aspects of quantum mechanics to expand our computational horizons. Quantum Computing for Computer Scientists takes readers on a tour of this fascinating area of cutting-edge research. Written in an accessible yet rigorous fashion, this book employs ideas and techniques familiar to every student of computer science. The reader is not expected to have any advanced mathematics or physics background. After presenting the necessary prerequisites, the material is organized to look at different aspects of quantum computing from the specific standpoint of computer science. There are chapters on computer architecture, algorithms, programming languages, theoretical computer science, cryptography, information theory, and hardware. The text has step-by-step examples, more than two hundred exercises with solutions, and programming drills that bring the ideas of quantum computing alive for today's computer science students and researchers.
Quantum computing is an emerging technology with the potential to have a significant impact on science and technology. Organised into four parts, this comprehensive second edition covers topics such as the basic concepts of quantum computing alongside quantum implementation of different circuits; the fault tolerant concepts of quantum computing; the concept of QCA alongside the design processes of different QCA circuits; and an overview of QCA fault-tolerant circuits and their design procedures. In addition to updates to first edition chapters to reflect developments in recent years, this new edition sees the inclusion of problems to every chapter and eight new chapters. This book will be a great help for quantum computing researchers, faculty members and students who can develop a working understanding of circuit-based quantum computing. Key features • Contains eight new chapters as a significantly extended new edition • Encompasses developments in the area, with a special focus on quantum cellular automata • Is suitable as a supplementary text in advanced courses • Includes problems within every chapter
One of the most cited books in physics of all time, Quantum Computation and Quantum Information remains the best textbook in this exciting field of science. This 10th anniversary edition includes an introduction from the authors setting the work in context. This comprehensive textbook describes such remarkable effects as fast quantum algorithms, quantum teleportation, quantum cryptography and quantum error-correction. Quantum mechanics and computer science are introduced before moving on to describe what a quantum computer is, how it can be used to solve problems faster than 'classical' computers and its real-world implementation. It concludes with an in-depth treatment of quantum information. Containing a wealth of figures and exercises, this well-known textbook is ideal for courses on the subject, and will interest beginning graduate students and researchers in physics, computer science, mathematics, and electrical engineering.

Quantum information- the subject- is a new and exciting area of science, which brings together physics, information theory, computer science and mathematics. Quantum Information- the book- is based on two successful lecture courses given to advanced undergraduate and beginning postgraduate students in physics. The intention is to introduce readers at this level to the fundamental, but offer rather simple, ideas behind ground-breaking developments including quantum cryptography, teleportation and quantum computing. The text is necessarily rather mathematical in style, but the mathematics nowhere allowed priority over the key physical ideas. My aim throughout was to be as complete and self- contained but to avoid, as far as possible, lengthy and formal mathematical proofs. Each of the eight chapters is followed by about forty exercise problems with which the reader can test their understanding and hone their skills. These will also provide a valuable resource to tutors and lectures. To request a copy of the Solutions Manual, visit: http://global.oup.com/uk/academic/physics/admin/solutions
