Abstract

A four-level N-type atomic ensemble enclosed in a cavity is revisited to investigate the influence of spontaneous generated coherence (SGC) on transmission features of weak probe light field. A weak probe field is propagating through the cavity where each atom inside the cavity follows four-level N-type atom-field configuration of rubidium (85Rb) atom. We use input–output theory and study the interaction of atomic ensemble and three cavity fields which are coupled to the same cavity mode. A SGC affects the transmission properties of weak probe light field due to which a transparency window (cavity EIT) appears. At resonance condition the transparency window increases with increasing the SGC in the system. We also studied the influence of the SGC on group delay and investigated magnitude enhancement of group delay for the maximum SGC in the system.

Cavity electromagnetically induced transparency with Rydberg atoms

Abu Bakar Ali, Ziauddin Ziauddin

Abstract Cavity electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is revisited via the input probe field intensity. A strongly interacting Rydberg atomic medium ensemble is considered in a cavity, where atoms behave as superatoms (SAs) under the dipole blockade mechanism. Each atom in the strongly interacting Rydberg atomic medium ( 87 Rb) follows a three-level cascade atomic configuration. A strong control and weak probe field are employed in the cavity with the ensemble of Rydberg atoms. The features of the reflected and transmitted probe light are studied under the influence of the input probe field intensity. A transparency peak (cavity EIT) is revealed at a resonance condition for small values of input probe field intensity. The manipulation of the cavity EIT is reported by tuning the strength of the input probe field intensity. Further, the phase and group delay of the transmitted and reflected probe light are studied. It is found that group delay and phase in the reflected light are negative, while for the transmitted light they are positive. The magnitude control of group delay in the transmitted and reflected light is investigated via the input probe field intensity.

Control of Group Velocity via Spontaneous Generated Coherence and Kerr Nonlinearity

Hazrat Ali, Iftikhar Ahmad, Ziauddin Ziauddin

A four-level N-type atomic medium is considered to study the effect of spontaneous generated coherence (SGC) and Kerr nonlinearity on light pulse propagation. A light pulse is propagating inside the medium where each atom follows four-level N-type atom-field configuration of rubidium ( 85 Rb) atom. The atom-field interaction leads to electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) process. The atom-field interaction is accompanied by normal dispersion and in the presence of SGC and Kerr nonlinearity the dispersion property of the proposed atomic medium is modified, which leads to enhancement of positive group index of the medium. The enhancement of positive group index then leads to slow group velocity inside the medium. A more slow group velocity is also investigated by incorporated the collective effect of SGC and Kerr nonlinearity. The control of group velocity inside a four-level N-type atomic medium via collective effect of SGC and Kerr nonlinearity is the major part of this work.

Effects of Spontaneously Generated Coherence on Absorption in Probe Laser in Four-level Y-type Atomic System

Ketao Liu

This paper investigates the effects of spontaneously generated coherence(SGC) on the probe absorption in the Y-type four-level atomic system driven by three fields. It finds that the probe absorption at the resonance center shows the different phenomena with the SGC effects. When SGC produces the destructive interference on the probe absorption, the absorption at the resonance center is reduced with the SGC enhancement and the gain appears there. When SGC produces the constructive interference on the probe absorption, the absorption at the resonance center is enhanced with the SGC enhancement. That is electromagnetically induced absorption(being abbreviated EIA);the intensity of double electromagnetically induced transparency(being abbreviated EIT);at both sides of the resonance is increased, and the windows get wider. At the same time, the linewidth of the absorption at the resonance center becomes narrow and the transparent windows at both sides of the resonance get wider when the spontaneous decay rate of energy levels |3〉→|2〉 and 4〉→|2〉 is decreased at the ratio of the spontaneous decay rate of energy levels |3〉→|2〉 and |4〉→|2〉 being constant.

Investigation of spontaneously generated coherence in dressed states of ^85Rb atoms

We investigate the effects of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on the electromagnetically induced transparency features in a four-level Lambda-type system. We show that double-transparency windows and a controllable narrow absorption peak can be obtained with the presence of SGC. We present an equivalent system without the rigorous requirement of close-lying levels to observe the phenomena. We also experimentally demonstrate the corresponding features in a rubidium atomic beam.

Electromagnetically induced grating via Kerr nonlinearity and spontaneously generated coherence in a Doppler broadened four-level N-type atomic system

Amjad Hussain, Muqaddar Abbas, Ziauddin Ziauddin +1 more

Abstract We study the electromagnetically induced grating in a four-level N-type atomic system in the presence of Kerr field, spontaneously generated coherence (SGC), and Doppler broadening. The transmission and diffraction intensity of the probe light is controlled through the Kerr field and the SGC. The gradual increase of the Kerr field and the SGC in the presence of a Doppler broadened medium leads to the enhanced multiple transmission and intensity peaks of the probe light. The electromagnetically induced grating may find applications in a quantized probe field, all-optical switching, routing, and light storage devices.

Giant Goos–Hänchen shift via spontaneous generated coherence

Ziauddin Ziauddin

The influence of spontaneous generated coherence (SGC) on the Goos–Hänchen (GH) shift in the reflected light is presented. A weak probe light is incident on a cavity containing three-level gaseous atomic medium consist of 85Rb atoms. The atom–field interaction follows electromagnetically induced transparency configuration, and the SGC modifies the dispersion and absorption properties of a system [Y. Niu and S. Gong, Phys. Rev. A 73, 053811 (2006)]. The SGC enhances the Kerr nonlinearity which leads to giant negative and positive GH shifts in the reflected light. Further, the control of negative and positive GH shifts is achieved via manipulation of probe field detuning.
