Correlations in orbital angular momentum of spatially entangled paired photons generated in parametric down-conversion

Clara I. Osorio, Gabriel Molina‐Terriza, Juan P. Torres

What are the orbital angular momentum correlations between spatially entangled photon pairs generated in spontaneous parametric down-conversion? We show that the answer to this question can be given in two alternative, although complementary, ways. The answer posed in this Brief Report explains satisfactorily the seemingly contradictory results obtained in different experiments, and theoretical approaches.

The process of spontaneous parametric down-conversion is a dependable source of high-dimensional orbital angular momentum-entangled bi-photon states. We observe, analyze and maximize the number of orbital angular momentum modes produced by the down-conversion nonlinear crystal and detected by our measurement apparatus.

Orbital and Intrinsic Angular Momentum of Single Photons and Entangled Pairs of Photons Generated by Parametric Down-Conversion

H. H. Arnaut, G. A. Barbosa

States of light that are simultaneously eigenstates of orbital, intrinsic, and total angular momentum are found and eigenstates describing pairs of photons from spontaneous parametric down-conversion reveal classes of photon conversion with angular momentum conservation and cases where the initial angular momentum from the pump laser beam is shared between the converted photons and the generating medium. These angular momentum conservation laws open up a wide range of applications to be explored.
