Dynamical entropy for the quantized CAT map

Abstract

We estimate the dynamical entropy for the quantized CAT map. It turns out that the result depends on the rotation parameter and positivity of the dynamical entropy demands asymptotic abelianness. Further the estimates offer a counterexample to the additivity of the dynamical entropy for tensor products.

Symmetry properties of quantum dynamical entropy

Eric M. Schultz, Keiichiro Furuya, Laimei Nie

As quantum analogs of the classical Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy, quantum dynamical entropies have emerged as important tools to characterize complex quantum dynamics. In particular, Alicki-Fannes-Lindblad (AFL) entropy, which quantifies the information production rate of a coherent quantum system subjected to repeated measurement, has received considerable attention as a potential diagnostic for quantum chaos. Despite this interest, the precise behavior of quantum dynamical entropy in the presence of symmetry remains largely unexplored. In this work, we establish rigorous inequalities of the AFL entropy for arbitrary unitary dynamics (single particle and many body) in the presence of various types of symmetry. Our theorems encompass three cases: Abelian symmetry, an anticommuting unitary, and non-Abelian symmetries. In particular, we show that, while the cumulative AFL entropy generally saturates to the dimensional bound at late times for chaotic dynamics, this saturation value is distinctively lower when the measurements respect the symmetries. We motivate our main results with numerical simulations of the perturbed quantum cat maps. Our findings highlight the crucial role of symmetry in quantum dynamics under measurements, and our framework is readily adaptable for investigating symmetry's influence across diverse probes of quantum chaos.

On estimating the output entropy of the tensor product of a phase-damping channel and an arbitrary channel

Grigori Gennadievich Amosov

We obtain a lower estimate for the output entropy of a tensor product of the quantum phase-damping channel and an arbitrary channel. We show that this estimate immediately implies that strong superadditivity of the output entropy holds for this channel as well as for the quantum depolarizing channel.

On unified-entropy characterization of quantum channels

Alexey E. Rastegin

We consider properties of quantum channels with the use of unified entropies. Extremal unravelings of quantum channel with respect to these entropies are examined. The concept of map entropy is extended in terms of the unified entropies. The map ( q , s )-entropy is naturally defined as the unified ( q , s )-entropy of a rescaled dynamical matrix of given quantum channel. Inequalities of Fannes type are obtained for introduced entropies in terms of both the trace and Frobenius norms of difference between corresponding dynamical matrices. Additivity properties of introduced map entropies are discussed. The known inequality of Lindblad with the entropy exchange is generalized to many of the unified entropies. For the tensor product of a pair of quantum channels, we derive a two-sided estimate on the output entropy of a maximally entangled input state.

On estimating the output entropy of a tensor product of the quantum phase-damping channel with an arbitrary channel

Grigori Gennadievich Amosov

We obtained the estimation from below for the output entropy of a tensor product of the quantum phase-damping channel with an arbitrary channel. It is shown that from this estimation immediately follows that the strong superadditivity of the output entropy holds for this channel as well as for the quantum depolarizing channel.

Minimal entropy of states emerging from noisy quantum channels

Christopher King, Mary Beth Ruskai

We consider the minimal entropy of qubit states transmitted through two uses of a noisy quantum channel, which is modeled by the action of a completely positive trace-preserving (or stochastic) map. We provide strong support for the conjecture that this minimal entropy is additive, namely, that the minimum entropy can be achieved when product states are transmitted. Explicitly, we prove that for a tensor product of two unital stochastic maps on qubit states, using an entanglement that involves only states which emerge with minimal entropy cannot decrease the entropy below the minimum achievable using product states. We give a separate argument, based on the geometry of the image of the set of density matrices under stochastic maps, which suggests that the minimal entropy conjecture holds for nonunital as well as for unital maps. We also show that the maximal norm of the output states is multiplicative for most product maps on n-qubit states, including all those for which at least one map is unital. For the class of unital channels on C/sup 2/, we show that additivity of minimal entropy implies that the Holevo (see IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory, vol.44, p.269-73, 1998 and Russian Math. Surv., p.1295-1331, 1999) capacity of the channel is additive over two inputs, achievable with orthogonal states, and equal to the Shannon capacity. This implies that superadditivity of the capacity is possible only for nonunital channels.

ENTROPIC CHARACTERIZATION OF QUANTUM OPERATIONS

Wojciech Roga, Karol Życzkowski, M. Fannes

We investigate decoherence induced by a quantum channel in terms of minimal output entropy and map entropy. The latter is the von Neumann entropy of the Jamiołkowski state of the channel. Both quantities admit q-Renyi versions. We prove additivity of the map entropy for all q. For the case q = 2, we show that the depolarizing channel has the smallest map entropy among all channels with a given minimal output Renyi entropy of order two. This allows us to characterize pairs of channels such that the output entropy of their tensor product acting on a maximally entangled input state is larger than the sum of the minimal output entropies of the individual channels. We conjecture that for any channel Φ1acting on a finite dimensional system, there exists a class of channels Φ2sufficiently close to a unitary map such that additivity of minimal output entropy for Ψ1⊗ Ψ2holds.
