Broadband parametric amplification with impedance engineering: Beyond the gain-bandwidth product

Tanay Roy, Suman Kundu, Madhavi Chand +7 more

We present an impedance engineered Josephson parametric amplifier capable of providing bandwidth beyond the traditional gain-bandwidth product. We achieve this by introducing a positive linear slope in the imaginary component of the input impedance seen by the Josephson oscillator using a λ/2 transformer. Our theoretical model predicts an extremely flat gain profile with a bandwidth enhancement proportional to the square root of amplitude gain. We experimentally demonstrate a nearly flat 20 dB gain over a 640 MHz band, along with a mean 1-dB compression point of −110 dBm and near quantum-limited noise. The results are in a good agreement with our theoretical model.

Proposal of a transmon-based high bandwidth quantum router

Dibyendu Chatterjee, Arijit Roy

Larger bandwidth is an ever increasing demand of any communication system. Due to the unique device features, transmon is proposed to use in quantum communication. Not only as a quantum router, but transmon can also be used as quantum Josephson parametric amplifier. Josephson parametric amplifier provides high gain-bandwidth product which can be increased to a level beyond the traditional gain-bandwidth product. The larger bandwidth in Josephson parametric amplifier is achievable by appropriate impedance engineering which can be integrated to the hardware of the transmon-based router. We proposed here a quantum router with wider bandwidth and it is shown that the gain profile is very flat with a wide frequency of the quantum router.

Broadband lumped-element Josephson parametric amplifier with single-step lithography

T. Elo, T. S. Abhilash, M. R. Perelshtein +3 more

We present a lumped-element Josephson parametric amplifier (JPA) fabricated using a straightforward e-beam lithography process. Our strongly coupled flux-pumped JPA achieves a gain of 20 dB with a bandwidth of 95 MHz around 5 GHz, while the center frequency is tunable by more than 1 GHz, with the additional possibility for rapid tuning by varying the pump frequency alone. Analytical calculations based on the input-output theory reproduce our measurement results closely.
