Quantum Secure Communication

Muhammad Suhail Zubairy

Cryptography is a method of secure communication between two or more parties. The crucial step is exchanging a key in a secure manner. There are, however, two problems with conventional cryptography. First the sender and the receiver should exchange the key through highly reliable and secure channels. The second problem is that a clever eavesdropper can, by a careful analysis of the sent information, reconstruct the key. In this chapter, schemes to overcome these problems are presented. First a scheme for exchanging a key over public channels, the so-called RSA algorithm, is discussed. Then the protocols for the quantum key distribution (QKD), the Bennett–Brassard-84 (BB-84) and Bennett-92(B-92) protocols, are then presented. The QKD protocols are exclusively derived using Bohr’s principle of complementarity. An application of these ideas to the design of secure quantum money is discussed.

Continuous‐Variable Quantum Key Distribution Scheme with Odd Coherent States

Yingdi DONG, Jinye Peng, Xiaoyan Sun

The Quantum key distribution (QKD) has been entering the practical application era. The odd coherent state which follows sub Poisson distributed has been confirmed to extend transmission distance and improve secret key rate in Discrete-variable quantum key distribution (DVQKD) protocol. We propose Entanglement-based (EB) scheme of Continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) with odd coherent state. This scheme allows distributing Gaussian modulated CVQKD with laser light which could be odd coherent state. We analyze the logarithmic negativity between entangled odd coherent states and the security. The results show that renewed scheme can extend secure distance by 10.6% and enhance the tolerance excess noise in same parameter, and the renewed scheme could be applied to prepare-and-measure (P&M) model in CVQKD.

Robustness-Enhanced Quantum Integrated Sensing and Communication Networks Based on Bivariate Bicycle Codes Scheme

Y. Zhang, W. Liang, L. Li +3 more

Quantum integrated sensing and communication (QISAC) enables simultaneous parameter estimation and secure information transmission based on shared entanglement resources, making it a promising research direction for future quantum information networks. In practical quantum channels, however, depolarizing noise, decoherence, and potential eavesdropping perturbations may degrade entanglement resources, increase the quantum bit error rate, and reduce both secrecy capacity and sensing performance. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a coding-enhanced QISAC (CE-QISAC) scheme. Based on the shared entanglement framework of existing QISAC protocols, the proposed scheme incorporates Bivariate Bicycle (BB) quantum low-density parity-check codes and a low-complexity belief propagation with localized statistics decoding (BP-LSD) algorithm to protect transmitted quantum states through error correction, thereby reducing the logical quantum bit error rate. The secrecy capacity under coding enhancement is analyzed according to the decoded logical error rate, while the waterfall effect of BB codes is further exploited to improve security detection sensitivity. Results show that the proposed scheme maintains high secrecy capacity in the nominal noise regime, mitigates the impact of depolarizing noise on parameter estimation, and reduces decoding complexity, providing a feasible approach for quantum integrated sensing and secure direct communication over noisy quantum channels.
