Applications of electro-optical hybrid optical bistable devices

Chunfei Li

The hybrid optical bistable devices with electro-optical feedback have many potential important applications for controlling light by light or electricity, such as optical modulator, optical switch, optical logic, optical limiter, optical stabilizer, optical amplifer, optical oscillator and optical sensor. Some examples which have been done by us are shown in this paper.

TOPICAL REVIEW Prospective applications of optical quantum memories

Félix Bussières, Nicolas Sangouard, Mikael Afzelius +3 more

An optical quantum memory can be broadly defined as a system capable of storing a quantum state through interaction with light at optical frequencies. During the last decade, intense research was devoted to their development, mostly with the aim of fulfilling the requirements of their first two applications, namely quantum repeaters and linear-optical quantum computation. A better understanding of those requirements then motivated several different experimental approaches. Along the way, other exciting applications emerged, such as as quantum metrology, single-photondetection,testsofthefoundationsofquantumphysics,device-independentquantuminformationprocessing and nonlinear processing of quantum information. Here we review several prospective applications of optical quantum memories, as well as recent experimental achievements pertaining to these applications. This review highlights that optical quantum memories have become essential for the development of optical quantum information processing.

Fiber Optical Bistability in Frequency Domain Based on Tunable Fiber Laser and its Application

Sun Xiudong

Fiber optical bistability in frequency domain, which has wide application propects, is the combination of optical bistable principle with modern fiber techniques. The mechanisms of electro-optic hybrid and intrinsic optical bistability in frequency domain based on tunable laser and their recent progresses are summarized, and its applications in fiber laser power stabilizer, optical switch, fiber sensor of digital type are discussed.
