Dynamical Evolution of Quantum Correlations and Decoherence in Coupled Oscillators Interacting with a Thermal Reservoir

Somayeh Mehrabankar, Farkhondeh Abbasnezhad, Davood Afshar +1 more

We investigate the dynamical evolution of quantum discord, entanglement and purity in an open quantum system of two coupled asymmetric harmonic oscillators interacting with a thermal environment. Using the Kossakowski-Lindblad master equation we analyze the time evolution starting with a squeezed vacuum state. In contrast to our previous study on entanglement evolution in asymmetric oscillators, the present work introduces XY-type position-position coupling together with a systematic joint analysis of quantum discord and purity alongside entanglement. We examine the combined effects of the squeezing parameter, asymmetry parameter, coupling constant, dissipation rate and temperature. We find that quantum discord and entanglement exhibit, in general, a non-monotonic decrease over time. Increasing temperature consistently accelerates the degradation of both quantum correlations and purity, whereas increasing dissipation accelerates the degradation of quantum correlations but leads to higher steady-state purity. Increasing the squeezing parameter provides a protective effect by enhancing initial correlations and prolonging entanglement survival time, while increasing the coupling constant leads to higher quantum correlations. The asymmetry parameter exhibits only a weak influence on the correlation evolution. Our analysis reveals that quantum discord demonstrates stronger resilience than entanglement, which can present more complex behaviour including entanglement sudden death and possible temporary revivals and re-suppressions. These findings provide valuable insights for developing robust quantum information protocols and strategies for preserving quantum correlations in realistic open quantum systems, with potential extensions to non-Markovian regimes and multi-mode architectures.

Coupled harmonic oscillator in a multimode harmonic oscillator bath: Derivation of quantum propagator and master equation using white noise analysis

Bienvenido Masirin Butanas Jr., Roland Cristopher F. Caballar

This paper presents an application of white noise functional approach to derive the quantum propagator and the evolution of the reduced density matrix for an open quantum system consisting of coupled harmonic oscillators which are coupled to a bath consisting of a multimode harmonic oscillator. It is shown that the full quantum propagator is a product of three individual propagators. These propagators were obtained after two successive transformations of the coordinates for the system, and the coordinates for the coupling between the bath and one of the two harmonic oscillators in the system. The obtained propagator is then used to derive the time evolution equation for the density matrix describing the system. The method used to derive the propagator of the open quantum system considered in this paper shows promise for analyzing open quantum systems, due to its ease of use and mathematical rigor.

Quantum Correlation at Zero-IF: InP HEMT Circuitry Effect

Ahmad Salmanogli

The quantum correlation between microwave modes in an RF electronic circuit is analyzed and studied. An open quantum system operating at 4.2 K is designed in which InP HEMT as the nonlinear component couples two external oscillators to each other. The quantum theory is applied to completely analyze the system, by which the related quantum Hamiltonian containing all noise sources is derived. The Lindblad Master equation is used to analyze the time evolution of the expanded closed system that covers the environmental effects. In the following, the state of the system defined is determined in terms of the ensemble average state using the density matrix; then, the ensemble average of the different operators is calculated. Accordingly, the covariance matrix of the quantum system is derived, and the quantum discord as a key quantity to determine the quantum correlation is calculated. As an interesting point, the results show that InP HEMT mixes two coupling oscillator modes so that the quantum correlation is created at different frequency productions such as 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. The harmonics suitable for sampling and digitalization is the zero-IF (downside of 2nd harmonics) band at which the quantum correlation is generated. Another point is that there is no quantum correlation at the frequency resonance of each oscillator coupled to InP HEMT.
