Abstract

Achieving information theoretic security with practical complexity is of great interest to continuous-variable quantum key distribution in the postprocessing procedure. In this paper, we propose a reconciliation scheme based on the punctured low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. Compared to the well-known multidimensional reconciliation scheme, the present scheme has lower time complexity. Especially when the chosen punctured LDPC code achieves the Shannon capacity, the proposed reconciliation scheme can remove the information that has been leaked to an eavesdropper in the quantum transmission phase. Therefore, there is no information leaked to the eavesdropper after the reconciliation stage. This indicates that the privacy amplification algorithm of the postprocessing procedure is no more needed after the reconciliation process. These features lead to a higher secret key rate, optimal performance, and availability for the involved quantum key distribution scheme.

High Efficiency Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution Based on ATSC 3.0 LDPC Codes

Kun Zhang, Xueqin Jiang, Yan Feng +2 more

Due to the rapid development of quantum computing technology, encryption systems based on computational complexity are facing serious threats. Based on the fundamental theorem of quantum mechanics, continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) has the property of physical absolute security and can effectively overcome the dependence of the current encryption system on the computational complexity. In this paper, we construct the spatially coupled (SC)-low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes and quasi-cyclic (QC)-LDPC codes by adopting the parity-check matrices of LDPC codes in the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 standard as base matrices and introduce these codes for information reconciliation in the CVQKD system in order to improve the performance of reconciliation efficiency, and then make further improvements to final secret key rate and transmission distance. Simulation results show that the proposed LDPC codes can achieve reconciliation efficiency of higher than 0.96. Moreover, we can obtain a high final secret key rate and a long transmission distance through using our proposed LDPC codes for information reconciliation.

Rate-Adaptive LDPC-based key reconciliation for high performance quantum key distribution

Jesús Martínez-Mateo, José Luis Rosales, Vicente Martín Ayuso

The postprocessing or secret-key distillation process in quantum key distribution (QKD) mainly involves two well-known procedures: information reconciliation and privacy amplification. Information or key reconciliation has been customarily studied in terms of efficiency. During this, some information needs to be disclosed for reconciling discrepancies in the exchanged keys. The leakage of information is lower bounded by a theoretical limit, and is usually parameterized by the reconciliation efficiency (or inefficiency), i.e. the ratio of additional information disclosed over the Shannon limit. Most techniques for reconciling errors in QKD try to optimize this parameter. For instance, the well-known Cascade (probably the most widely used procedure for reconciling errors in QKD) was recently shown to have an average efficiency of 1.05 at the cost of a high interactivity (number of exchanged messages). Modern coding techniques, such as rate-adaptive low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes were also shown to achieve similar efficiency values exchanging only one message, or even better values with few interactivity and shorter block-length codes.

High-efficiency reconciliation for continuous variable quantum key distribution

Zengliang Bai, Shenshen Yang, Yongmin Li

Abstract Quantum key distribution (QKD) is the most mature application of quantum information technology. Information reconciliation is a crucial step in QKD and significantly affects the final secret key rates shared between two legitimate parties. We analyze and compare various construction methods of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes and design high-performance irregular LDPC codes with a block length of 10 6 . Starting from these good codes and exploiting the slice reconciliation technique based on multilevel coding and multistage decoding, we realize high-efficiency Gaussian key reconciliation with efficiency higher than 95% for signal-to-noise ratios above 1. Our demonstrated method can be readily applied in continuous variable QKD.

High performance reconciliation for continuous-variable quantum key distribution with LDPC code

Dakai Lin, Duan Huang, Peng Huang +2 more

Reconciliation is a significant procedure in a continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) system. It is employed to extract secure secret key from the resulted string through quantum channel between two users. However, the efficiency and the speed of previous reconciliation algorithms are low. These problems limit the secure communication distance and the secure key rate of CV-QKD systems. In this paper, we proposed a high-speed reconciliation algorithm through employing a well-structured decoding scheme based on low density parity-check (LDPC) code. The complexity of the proposed algorithm is reduced obviously. By using a graphics processing unit (GPU) device, our method may reach a reconciliation speed of 25 Mb/s for a CV-QKD system, which is currently the highest level and paves the way to high-speed CV-QKD.

Rate-Compatible LDPC Codes for Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution in Wide Range of SNRs Regime

Xiaodong Fan, Quanhao Niu, Tao Zhao +1 more

Long block length rate-compatible low-density parity-compatible (LDPC) codes are designed to solve the problems of great variation of quantum channel noise and extremely low signal-to-noise ratio in continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD). The existing rate-compatible methods for CV-QKD inevitably cost abundant hardware resources and waste secret key resources. In this paper, we propose a design rule of rate-compatible LDPC codes that can cover all potential SNRs with single check matrix. Based on this long block length LDPC code, we achieve high efficiency continuous-variable quantum key distribution information reconciliation with a reconciliation efficiency of 91.80% and we have higher hardware processing efficiency and lower frame error rate than other schemes. Our proposed LDPC code can obtain a high practical secret key rate and a long transmission distance in an extremely unstable channel.

Low-complexity adaptive reconciliation protocol for continuous-variable quantum key distribution

Xueqin Jiang, Shengyuan Xue, Jiahao Tang +2 more

Abstract In continuous-variable quantum key distribution systems, reconciliation is a crucial step that significantly affects the secret key rate (SKR). The rateless protocol based on Raptor codes can achieve high reconciliation efficiency at low signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). However, the high complexity of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes used for the precoding in Raptor codes limits the speed of reconciliation. In this paper, we propose an adaptive reconciliation protocol by modifying Raptor codes. The length of random binary sequences is increased because we remove the LDPC precoding that adds redundancy. The modified Raptor codes reduce the complexity of encoding with better performance. The proposed protocol gives a reconciliation efficiency higher than 98.1% in the SNR below −20 dB and maintains a certain SKR in long-distance transmission.
