Robust QoS-based transmit beamforming design in MISO wiretap channels

Hui Ma, Piming Ma

In this paper, a robust quality-of-service (QoS) based secret transmit beamforming design problem is discussed for a multiple-input single-output (MISO) system which works under cooperative jamming (CJ) scheme with a helper transmitting jamming signals to confuse the eavesdropper. For the channel state information (CSI), we assume that the CSI for the legitimate link is available and the CSI for the wiretap channel is imperfect. Our system design goal is to optimize the worst-case performance of the network under the situation: minimizing the signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) at the eavesdropper and meanwhile guaranteeing the SINR at legitimate receiver. Thus the spatial distribution of jamming signals and the beamforming vector of source are jointly optimized under a total power constraint. As this optimization problem is difficult to tackle, a method is proposed with proofs to obtain exact solver of it. Our analysis reveals that optimizing the beamforming vector of source is a better strategy compared to optimizing the spatial covariance matrix of information signals. Numerical results affirm this and show the advantage of robust transmit designs compared to a non-robust approach in lowering the SINR at the eavesdropper in the presence of channel uncertainties.

Cooperative Jamming Aided Robust Beamforming for MISO Channels with Unknown Eavesdroppers

Hui Ma, Julian Cheng, Xianfu Wang

A robust quality-of-service (QoS) based secure transmission design is investigated for a cooperative jamming aided multiple-input single- output system with unknown eavesdroppers. By assuming legitimate receiver's channel state information (CSI) is imperfect and eavesdroppers' CSI is unavailable, our system design goal is to maximize the power of artificial jamming signals, and to guarantee a minimum QoS at the legitimate receiver. The transmit beamforming vector and covariance matrix of jamming signals are jointly optimized under individual power constraints. As this optimization problem is non-convex, we propose a solution method by using the semidefinite relaxation approach. Numerical results show that, our design, in which the precoding scheme of information transmission is transmit beamforming, outperforms its transmit covariance based counterpart.

Robust Secure Transmission in MISO Channels with Imperfect ECSI

Jing Huang, Arnold Lee Swindlehurst

This paper studies robust transmission schemes for MISO wiretap channels with imperfect channel state information (CSI) for the eavesdropper link. Both the cases of direct transmission and cooperative jamming with a helper are investigated. The error in the eavesdropper's CSI is assumed to be norm-bounded, and robust transmit covariance matrices are obtained based on worst-case secrecy rate maximization, under both individual and global power constraints. Numerical results show the advantage of the proposed robust design. In particular, under a global power constraint, although cooperative jamming is not necessary for optimal transmission with perfect eavesdropper's CSI, we show that robust jamming support can increase the secrecy rate in the presence of channel mismatch.
