Abstract

Abstract We study a diode-pumped alkaline rubidium laser operating at the D 1 -line transition. The mode-locked regime of laser operation using an active technique inside the laser cavity has been demonstrated. We have also experimentally shown that the mode-locked laser radiation can be used to observe coherent effects: the electromagnetically induced transparency and the nonlinear Faraday rotation in Rb vapor.

Experimental study of self-induced transparency mode-locking in Ti:sapphire laser

Abstract In this paper, passive mode-locking in Ti:sapphire laser with a coherent absorber cells with rubidium vapor placed in the cavity is demonstrated experimentally. For the best of our knowledge these experiments are the first time experimental demonstration of passive mode-locking based on self-induced transparency regime in the coherent absorber. Up to now, such a regime has not been observed experimentally and was predicted only theoretically.

Mode Locking in a Ti:Sapphire Laser by Means of a Coherent Absorber

Mikhail V. Arkhipov, Rostislav M. Arkhipov, A. A. Shimko +2 more

The regime of passive mode locking in a Ti:sapphire laser with a coherent absorber resulting in the emission of pulses with a duration considerably shorter than the absorber relaxation times is demonstrated experimentally. A cell filled with rubidium vapor placed in the laser cavity serves as a coherent absorber. Mode locking arises when the laser oscillation frequency is tuned to the resonance transitions in rubidium. In our opinion, 2π pulses of self-induced transparency appear in the cavity, and the reported results represent the first experimental demonstration of passive mode locking caused by the effect of self-induced transparency, which has previously been discussed only theoretically.

Observation of Electromagnetically Induced Transparency by a Train of Short Pulses

叶存云

We report the experimental demonstration of electromagnetically induced transparency in hot rubidium (^85Rb) atomic vapour by using an actively mode-locked external cavity diode laser in Littman-Metcalf configuration. We can make opaque resonant transitions transparent to any two optical comb components in the pulse trains which excite atomic coherence in the ground states of ^85Rb.

A study of coherent nonlinear processes in dense media with continuous and pulsed laser fields

The mode-locked laser field is used to observe coherent effects in a dense\nrubidium gas.\nIn part(II), I experimentally demonstrate enhanced acoustic-optic coupling that\noccurs when the velocity of sound is close to the group velocity of light.
