Phase separation induced by density-spin interaction in one-dimensional extended t-J model

Abstract

t-J model is one of important theoretical models in the study of high temperature superconductivity. Recent cold molecule experiments indicate that t-J model can be simulated by ultracold polar molecules. In the simulated t-J model, besides long-range dipolar interaction, density-spin interaction has also been introduced. In the present we study the effect of density-spin interaction in the one-dimensional extended t-J model by using the density matrix renormalization group method. We choose three sets of representative parameters, which correspond to three different phases in the ground state phase diagram of t-J model, to calculate the charge and spin density distribution in real space and the structure factor of density-density and spin-spin correlation functions. The results indicate that the nature of the system will not change if the intensity of the density-spin interaction is small, however if the intensity is large enough, the system enters the phase separation, in which the character is quiet different form that of the phase separation in the traditional t-J model.

Phase diagram of the one-dimensional t-J model with long-range dipolar interactions

Chen Cheng, Bin-Bin Mao, Fuzhou Chen +1 more

We study systematically the effect of long-range dipolar interactions on the ground-state phase diagram of the one-dimensional model by means of the density matrix renormalization group. While the basic phases described by the Luttinger parameter , namely, the repulsive Luttinger liquid (metallic phase, ), attractive Luttinger liquid (superconducting phase, ), and the phase separation , are similar to those of the conventional model, the presence of the long-range dipolar interactions leads to significant differences. i) At high-density regime, the phase boundaries of these three phases are even pushed to the large- J region; ii) at low-density regime, these phase boundaries shift toward the small- J region and, most importantly, iii) the spin-gap region spreads across the boundary of , suggesting an exotic metallic phase with spin-gap, which is absent in the conventional model. The result indicates that the long-range dipolar interactions have a significant influence on the ground-state properties of the one-dimensional model. Its implication on the pseudogap phenomenon of the hole-doped cuprates is briefly discussed.

Ground-state phase diagram of the one-dimensional t - J model

Alexander Moreno, Alejandro Muramatsu, Salvatore R. Manmana

We examine the ground-state phase diagram of the $t$-$J$ model in one dimension by means of the density matrix renormalization group. This model is characterized by a rich phase diagram as a function of the exchange interaction $J$ and the density $n$, displaying Luttinger-liquid (LL) behavior both of repulsive and attractive (i.e., superconducting) natures, a spin-gap phase, and phase separation. The phase boundaries separating the repulsive from the attractive LL phase as $J$ is increased, and also the boundaries of the spin-gap region at low densities, and phase separation at even larger $J$, are determined on the basis of correlation functions and energy gaps. In particular, we shed light on a contradiction between variational and renormalization-group (RG) results about the extent of the spin-gap phase, which results larger than the variational but smaller than the RG one. Furthermore, we show that the spin gap can reach a sizable value ($~0.1t$) at low enough filling, such that preformed pairs should be observable at temperatures below these energy scales. No evidence for a phase with clustering of more than two particles is found on approaching phase separation.

Correlations and enlarged superconducting phase of t−J⊥ chains of ultracold molecules on optical lattices

Salvatore R. Manmana, Marcel Möller, Riccardo Gezzi +1 more

We compute physical properties across the phase diagram of the $t\ensuremath{-}{J}_{\ensuremath{\perp}}$ chain with long-range dipolar interactions, which describe ultracold polar molecules on optical lattices. Our results obtained by the density-matrix renormalization group indicate that superconductivity is enhanced when the Ising component ${J}_{z}$ of the spin-spin interaction and the charge component $V$ are tuned to zero and even further by the long-range dipolar interactions. At low densities, a substantially larger spin gap is obtained. We provide evidence that long-range interactions lead to algebraically decaying correlation functions despite the presence of a gap. Although this has recently been observed in other long-range interacting spin and fermion models, the correlations in our case have the peculiar property of having a small and continuously varying exponent. We construct simple analytic models and arguments to understand the most salient features.

Analysis of spin-polaron formation in hund lattices

Y. Arredondo, Oracio Navarro, Emmanuel Vallejo +1 more

We consider a one-dimensional Hund lattice model where a conducting band is coupled with localized spins s = 1/2 interacting antiferromagnetically, with coupling constant J , and investigate the ground state phase diagram as a function of both the exchange coupling J and the band filling, n . From spin structure factor measurements we found different evolving magnetic orderings in the ground state related to the particle distribution in the systems, although no charge density waves are formed, as found from density-density correlation function measurements. We study the quasiparticle formation and phase separation using the density-matrix renormalization group method, which is a highly efficient method to investigate quasi-one-dimensional strongly correlated systems.

Fermion-mediated long-range interactions of bosons in the one-dimensional Bose-Fermi-Hubbard model

Alexander Mering, Michael Fleischhauer

The ground-state phase diagram of mixtures of spin polarized fermions and bosons in a 1D periodic lattice is discussed in the limit of large fermion hopping and half filling of the fermions. Numerical simulations performed with the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) show in addition to bosonic Mott insulating (MI), superfluid (SF), and charge density-wave phases (CDW) a yet unreported phase with spatial separation of MI and CDW regions. We derive an effective bosonic theory which allows for a complete understanding and quantitative prediction of the bosonic phase diagram. In particular the origin of CDW phase and the MI-CDW phase separation is revealed as an effective fermion-mediated long-range interaction between bosons with alternating sign.

Tunable Superfluidity and Quantum Magnetism with Ultracold Polar Molecules

Alexey Vyacheslavovich Gorshkov, Salvatore R. Manmana, Gang Chen +4 more

By selecting two dressed rotational states of ultracold polar molecules in an optical lattice, we obtain a highly tunable generalization of the $t\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}J$ model, which we refer to as the $t\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}J\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}V\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}W$ model. In addition to $XXZ$ spin exchange, the model features density-density interactions and density-spin interactions; all interactions are dipolar. We show that full control of all interaction parameters in both magnitude and sign can be achieved independently of each other and of the tunneling. As a first step towards demonstrating the potential of the system, we apply the density matrix renormalization group method to obtain the 1D phase diagram of the simplest experimentally realizable case. Specifically, we show that the tunability and the long-range nature of the interactions in the $t\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}J\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}V\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}W$ model enable enhanced superfluidity. Finally, we show that Bloch oscillations in a tilted lattice can be used to probe the phase diagram experimentally.
