The simple harmonic oscillator ground state using a variational Monte Carlo method

A Monte Carlo method is used to evaluate the ground-state energy of a quantum particle in a harmonic oscillator potential. The use of a trial wavefunction illustrates the process by means of which the Monte Carlo method approximates with great accuracy the well known ground-state energy of a quantum mechanical harmonic oscillator. A FORTRAN program incorporating the numerical approach that is suitable for a personal computer is available in the PDF version of this article.

(3+1)-Dimensional Quantum Mechanics from Monte Carlo Hamiltonian: Harmonic Oscillator

Luo, Xiang-Qian, Xu +11 more

In Lagrangian formulation, it is extremely difficult to compute the excited spectrum and wavefunctions ora quantum theory via Monte Carlo methods. Recently, we developed a Monte Carlo Hamiltonian method for investigating this hard problem and tested the algorithm in quantum-mechanical systems in 1+1 and 2t1 dimensions. In this paper we apply it to the study of thelow-energy quantum physics of the (3+1)-dimensional harmonic oscillator.``

About One Method of Numerical Solution of Schrodinger’s Equation

Konstantin Eduardovich Plokhotnikov

Abstract The paper considers the method of the numerical solution of the Schrodinger equation, which can partly be attributed to the class of Monte Carlo methods. The method is presented and simultaneously illustrated by the examples of solving the one-dimensional and multidimensional Schrodinger equation in the problems of a linear one-dimensional oscillator, hydrogen atom, and benzene atom.
