Coherence and Correlation in Atomic Collisions

M R C McDowell

Published Nov 1, 1980• 48 citations
Publisher

Abstract

H Kleinpoppen and J F Williams (eds) 1980 New York: Plenum xiv + 706 pp price $59.50 Sir Harrie Massey's 70th birthday celebration conference was preceded by a symposium on the above topic. The papers from this symposium have been collected together, giving a comprehensive account of knowledge in the field at the end of 1978, and the book contains many suggestions for further work.

Quantum Collision Theory

Charles J Joachain Amsterdam: North-Holland/New York: American Elsevier 1975 pp xv + 710 price Dfl 225, $89.95 This book is similar in size and scope to the classics of scattering theory, Mott and Massey or Goldberger and Watson, so it is natural that we should try to compare it with them. It is clear from even a cursory reading that the author has pitched it at a rather lower level, caring sufficiently about his readers to add the odd footnote warning about a difficult section.

Fundamentals of Optics

Edward R. Pike

J. R. Klauder and E. C. G. Sudarshan New York: W. A. Benjamin. 1968 Pp. xi + 279. Price $15–50. This book is one of the first to appear on the new activity in optical coherence theory stimulated by the advent of the laser. The authors are well known for their original work in the subject; they have been particularly concerned with the development of formalism for the description of an arbitrary free field in a 'classical like' form or 'diagonal representation'.
