Resources for Satellite-Based Quantum Communication Networks

László Bacsárdi

Quantum mechanics-based computing offers revolutionary solutions in several fields including communications. Different out-of-laboratory experiments demonstrated the feasibility of the wired-based quantum communication networks and several free-space experiments have been performed. The next step will be a satellite-based quantum network, which will allow global secure communications. In our paper, we describe the requirements for such network and detail our results on a novel, entanglement-based satellite quantum communication network.

Recent progress of quantum communication in China (Conference Presentation)

Qiang Zhang

Quantum communication, based on the quantum physics, can provide information theoretical security. Building a global quantum network is one ultimate goal for the research of quantum information. Here, this talk will review the progress for quantum communication in China, including quantum key distribution over metropolitan area with untrustful relay, field test of quantum entanglement swapping over metropolitan network, the 2000 km quantum key distribution main trunk line, and satellite based quantum communication.

Space-based quantum communication towards global quantum network

Juan Yin, Ji-Gang Ren, Sheng‐Kai Liao +13 more

Quantum communication is proven to be the only unconditionally secure method for information exchange, which could well be the first commercial application of quantum information science. Compared with fiber-based demonstrations, free-space links could provide a more promising approach because photon loss and decoherence are almost negligible in the atmosphere. Furthermore, by using satellites, ultra-long-distance quantum communication and tests of quantum foundations could be achieved on a global scale. Here we report a serial of recent experimental progresses on free-space quantum communication over long distance in the Qinghai Lake area. In the meantime, besides the experimental efforts on the ground, Chinese Quantum Science Satellite has been launched on August 16th2016. And we will introduce the latest achievements in satellite-based quantum communication and large-scale tests of quantum foundations obtained through Micius.
