Activation of the violation of the Svetlichny inequality

Abstract

The phenomenon of superactivation of quantum nonlocality, i.e., the fact that several copies of a local quantum state when processed together can generate nonlocal correlations, has recently attracted much attention. However, this problem was considered mainly in a bipartite scenario (although some research in a multipartite case was also undertaken). In this paper we give explicit examples of activation of the violation of the Svetlichny inequality. The violation of the Svetlichny inequality is a sufficient condition of genuine tripartite nonlocality. We show that a number of pure GHZ-type states can be activated. We observe also that the amount of violation of the Svetlichny inequality by two copies of the GHZ state increases with an entanglement of a single copy of the state.

Activation of the Violation of Svetlichny Inequality for a Broad Class of States

Paweł Caban, Andrzej Molenda, Kamila Trzcińska

The fact that several copies of a local quantum state — when processed together — can generate a nonlocal correlation, i.e. the superactivation of quantum nonlocality, is a well-known feature of quantum mechanics. Most of research results focused strongly on the bipartite scenario. In this paper we show that the activation of violation of Svetlichny inequality, reported for the first time in our previous paper, is not an exceptional phenomenon but holds for a broad class of quantum states as well for pure as for mixed, noisy ones.

Efficient test to demonstrate genuine three particle nonlocality

Kaushiki Mukherjee, Biswajit Paul, Debasis Sarkar

According to the studies of genuine tripartite nonlocality in discrete variable quantum systems conducted so far, Svetlichny inequality is considered as the best Bell-type inequality to detect genuine (three way) nonlocality of pure tripartite genuine entangled states. In the present work, we have considered another Bell-type inequality (which has been reported as the 99th facet of NS 2 local polytope in Bancal et al (2013 Phys. Rev. A 88 014102 ), to reveal genuine tripartite nonlocality of generalized GHZ (Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger) class and a subclass of extended GHZ class states Acín et al (2000 Phys. Rev. Lett. 85 1560 ) thereby proving the conjecture given by Bancal et al (2013 Phys. Rev. A 88 014102 ) for the GGHZ class and the subclass of extended GHZ states. We compare the violation of this inequality with Svetlichny inequality which reveals the efficiency of the former inequality over the latter to demonstrate genuine nonlocality using the above classes of quantum states. Even in some cases discord monogamy score can be used as a better measure of quantum correlation over Svetlichny inequality for those classes of pure states. Besides, the 99th facet inequality is found efficient not only for revealing genuine nonlocal behavior of correlations emerging in systems using pure entangled states but also in some cases of mixed entangled states over Svetlichny inequality and some well known measures of entanglement.

Tight upper bound of genuine four party Svetlichny type nonlocality with and without local filtering

Sk Sahadat Hossain, Paul, Biswajit, Indrani Chattopadhyay +1 more

Identifying the nonlocality of a multiparty quantum state is an important task in quantum mechanics. Seevinck and Svetlichny [Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 060401 (2002)], and independently, Collins and co-workers [Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 170405 (2002)] have generalized the tripartite notion of Svetlichny nonlocality to n-parties. Here we have developed a tight upper bound for genuine four party Svetlichny type nonlocality. The constraints on the quantum states for the tightness of the bound are also presented. The method enables us to provide necessary and sufficient conditions for violating the four qubit Svetlichny type inequality for several quantum states. The relations between the genuine multipartite entanglement and the maximal quantum value of the Seevinck and Svetlichny operators for pure four qubit states are also discussed. Consequently, we have exhibited genuine four qubit hidden nonlocality under local filtering. Our result provides an effective and operational method for further study of multipartite quantum nonlocality.

Sharing tripartite nonlocality sequentially by arbitrarily many independent observers

XI Ya, Zheng, Zhu-Jun

There exist bipartite entangled states whose violations of Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) Bell inequality can be observed by a single Alice and arbitrarily many sequential Bobs [Phys. Rev. Lett. 125, 090401 (2020)]. Here we consider its analogues for tripartite systems: a tripartite entangled state is shared among Alice, Bob and multiple Charlies. The first Charlie measures his qubit and then passes his qubit to the next Charlie who measures again with other measurements and so on. The goal is to maximize the number of Charlies that can observe some kind of nonlocality with the single Alice and Bob. It has been shown that at most two Charlies could share genuine nonlocality of the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state via the violation of Svetlichny inequality with Alice and Bob [Quantum Inf. Process. 18, 42 (2019) and Phys. Rev. A 103, 032216 (2021)]. In this work, we show that arbitrarily many Charlies can have standard nonlocality (via violations of Mermin inequality) and some other kind of genuine nonlocality (which is known as genuinely nonsignal nonlocality) with the single Alice and single Bob.

Definitions of multipartite nonlocality

Jean-Daniel Bancal, Jonathan Barrett, Nicolas Gisin +1 more

In a multipartite setting, it is possible to distinguish quantum states that are genuinely $n$-way entangled from those that are separable with respect to some bipartition. Similarly, the nonlocal correlations that can arise from measurements on entangled states can be classified into those that are genuinely $n$-way nonlocal, and those that are local with respect to some bipartition. Svetlichny introduced an inequality intended as a test for genuine tripartite nonlocality. This work introduces two alternative definitions of $n$-way nonlocality, which we argue are better motivated both from the point of view of the study of nature, and from the point of view of quantum information theory. We show that these definitions are strictly weaker than Svetlichny's, and introduce a series of suitable Bell-type inequalities for the detection of three-way nonlocality. Numerical evidence suggests that all three-way entangled pure quantum states can produce three-way nonlocal correlations.

Theory of Genuine Tripartite Nonlocality of Gaussian States

Gerardo Adesso, Samanta Piano

We investigate the genuine multipartite nonlocality of three-mode Gaussian states of continuous variable systems. For pure states, we present a simplified procedure to obtain the maximum violation of the Svetlichny inequality based on displaced parity measurements, and we analyze its interplay with genuine tripartite entanglement measured via Rényi-2 entropy. The maximum Svetlichny violation admits tight upper and lower bounds at fixed tripartite entanglement. For mixed states, no violation is possible when the purity falls below 0.86. We also explore a set of recently derived weaker inequalities for three-way nonlocality, finding violations for all tested pure states. Our results provide a strong signature for the nonclassical and nonlocal nature of Gaussian states despite their positive Wigner function, and lead to precise recipes for its experimental verification.
