Abstract

The time- and space-modulated nonlinearity is the important character of the Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs). Many works have been done on atomic BECs with spatially modulated nonlinearity, but there is little work on atomic–molecular BECs. In this paper, we construct one family of explicitly exact solutions of the atomic–molecular BECs with time- and space-modulated nonlinearities and trapping potential by similarity transformations. We discuss the dynamics of matter waves including breathing solitons, quasi-breathing solitons, resonant solitons and moving solitons. We analyze the linear stability of the solutions by adding various initial stochastic noise. We also provide the experimental parameters to produce these phenomena in future experiments.

Localized nonlinear matter waves in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates with time- and space-modulated nonlinearities

Deng‐Shan Wang, Xinghua Hu, W.-M. Liu

We investigate the localized nonlinear matter waves in the two-component Bose-Einstein condensates with time- and space-modulated nonlinearities analytically and numerically. The similarity transformations are developed to solve the coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations and two families of explicitly exact solutions are derived. Our results show that not only the attractive spatiotemporal inhomogeneous interactions but the repulsive ones support novel localized nonlinear matter waves in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates. The dynamics of these matter waves, including the breathing solitons, quasibreathing solitons, resonant solitons, and moving solitons, is discussed. We confirm the stability of the exact solutions by adding various initial stochastic noise and study the general cases of the interaction parameters numerically. We also provide the experimental parameters to produce these phenomena in future experiments.

Localized nonlinear waves and dynamical stability in spinor Bose–Einstein condensates with time–space modulation

Yuqin Yao, Wei Han, Ji Li +1 more

Abstract Nonlinearity is one of the most remarkable characteristics of Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs). Much work has been done on one- and two-component BECs with time- or space-modulated nonlinearities, while there is little work on spinor BECs with space–time-modulated nonlinearities. In the present paper we investigate localized nonlinear waves and dynamical stability in spinor Bose–Einstein condensates with nonlinearities dependent on time and space. We solve the three coupled Gross–Pitaevskii equations by similarity transformation and obtain two families of exact matter wave solutions in terms of Jacobi elliptic functions and the Mathieu equation. The localized states of the spinor matter wave describe the dynamics of vector breathing solitons, moving breathing solitons, quasi-breathing solitons and resonant solitons. The results show that one-order vector breathing solitons, quasi-breathing solitons, resonant solitons and the moving breathing solitons ψ ±1 are all stable, but the moving breathing soliton ψ 0 is unstable. We also present the experimental parameters to realize these phenomena in future experiments.

Localized spatially nonlinear matter waves in atomic-molecular Bose-Einstein condensates with space-modulated nonlinearity

Yuqin Yao, Ji Li, Wei Han +2 more

The intrinsic nonlinearity is the most remarkable characteristic of the Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) systems. Many studies have been done on atomic BECs with time- and space- modulated nonlinearities, while there is few work considering the atomic-molecular BECs with space-modulated nonlinearities. Here, we obtain two kinds of Jacobi elliptic solutions and a family of rational solutions of the atomic-molecular BECs with trapping potential and space-modulated nonlinearity and consider the effect of three-body interaction on the localized matter wave solutions. The topological properties of the localized nonlinear matter wave for no coupling are analysed: the parity of nonlinear matter wave functions depends only on the principal quantum number n, and the numbers of the density packets for each quantum state depend on both the principal quantum number n and the secondary quantum number l. When the coupling is not zero, the localized nonlinear matter waves given by the rational function, their topological properties are independent of the principal quantum number n, only depend on the secondary quantum number l. The Raman detuning and the chemical potential can change the number and the shape of the density packets. The stability of the Jacobi elliptic solutions depends on the principal quantum number n, while the stability of the rational solutions depends on the chemical potential and Raman detuning.

Localized nonlinear matter waves in Bose-Einstein condensates with spatially and spatiotemporally modulated nonlinearities

Deng‐Shan Wang, Shu-Wei Song, W M Liu

The novel phenomena arising from Bose-Einstein condensates with spatially and spatiotemporally modulated nonlinearities in external potential is reviewed from a theoretical viewpoint. We first present theoretical analysis and numerical studies of the localized nonlinear matter waves in one-dimensional single and two-component BECs with spatially and spatiotemporally modulated nonlinearities, respectively. It is shown that the spatially or spatiotemporally modulated nonlinearity can support stable novel localized nonlinear matter waves such as the breathing solitons and moving solitons. Then the quasi-two-dimensional BEC with spatially modulated nonlinearity is investigated and we show that all of the BECs, similar to the linear harmonic oscillator, can have an arbitrary number of localized nonlinear matter waves with discrete energies. Their properties are determined by the principal quantum number and secondary quantum number. Moreover, we investigate the quantized vortices in a rotating BEC with spatiotemporally modulated interaction in harmonic and anharmonic potentials, respectively. The exact quantized vortex and giant vortex solutions are constructed explicitly by similarity transformation. Their stability behavior is examined by numerical simulation, which shows that a new series of stable vortex states which are defined by radial and angular quantum numbers, can be supported by the spatiotemporally modulated interaction in this system. We find that there exist stable quantized vortices with large topological charges in repulsive condensates with spatiotemporally modulated interaction.

Matter-wave solutions in Bose-Einstein condensates with harmonic and Gaussian potentials

Zhenya Yan, Dongmei Jiang

We study exact matter-wave solutions of the quasi-one-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation with the space- and/or time-modulated potential and nonlinearity and the time-dependent gain or loss term in Bose-Einstein condensates. In particular, based on the similarity transformation and symbolic analysis, we report several families of exact solutions of the quasi-one-dimensional GP equation in the combination of the harmonic and Gaussian potentials, in which some physically relevant solutions are described. The stability of the obtained matter-wave solutions is addressed numerically such that some stable solutions are found. Moreover, we also analyze the parameter regimes for the stable solutions. These results may raise the possibility of relative experiments and potential applications.
