Three body interaction effects on the phase diagram of spinor bosons

Abstract

We include a three body density interaction in the Bose Hubbard model and study its effects on the phase diagram for spinor (S = 1) bosons on an optical lattice via a mean field theory. The Mott insulating (MI) phases are noted to stabilize, in the sense that the MI phases extend to larger values of the system parameters alongwith widening of the particle-hole excitation spectrum as the three body interaction term is included for both the polar (spin dependent interaction being positive) and the ferromagnetic (spin dependent interaction being negative) cases. Another remarkable feature emerges as the phase diagram corresponding to the ferromagnetic case becomes distinct from that of its spinless variant, which in the absence of the three body term is indistinguishable from that of the scalar particles. A strong coupling perturbation theory is employed to provide analytical support to the above results.

Disorder, three body interaction and Bose glass phase in a spinor atomic gas in an optical lattice

Sk Noor Nabi, Saurabh Basu

We study the effects of disorder on the spin dependent interaction term of a spinor Bose Hubbard model with a three body interaction potential. The signature of the Bose glass (BG) phase is observed by computing the fraction of the lattice sites having finite superfluid (SF) order parameter and non integer occupation densities. We obtain the phase diagram both for the antiferromagnetic (AF) and ferromagnetic (F) cases via a percolation analysis. In the AF case, the BG phase intervenes between the odd-even Mott insulating (MI) lobes (for example, the lobes corresponding to occupation densities, n=1 and (n=2) but not between the even-odd MI lobes. In the ferromagnetic case, the presence of the BG phase is observed between all the MI lobes irrespective of them being even or odd. The BG phase almost destroys the first MI lobe while the MI phase looks more stable than the SF phase both in the AF and F cases due to the presence of the three body interactions.

Effects of an attractive three-body interaction on a spin-1 Bose Hubbard model

Sk Noor Nabi, Saurabh Basu

Abstract We study the effects of an attractive three-body interaction potential on a spin-1 ultracold Bose gas using the mean field approach (MFA). For an antiferromagnetic interaction, the third Mott insulator (MI) lobe is predominantly affected, where it completely engulfs the second and the fourth MI lobes at large values of interaction strength. However, no significant change is observed beyond the fourth MI lobe. The formation of the spin singlet (nematic) MI phase and the different order of phase transitions to the superfluid phase have been carefully scrutinized with the help of spin eigenvalues and the spin nematic order parameter. In the ferromagnetic case, the phase diagram shows similar features to that of a scalar Bose gas. We have compared our results on the MFA phase diagrams for both types of interaction potential via a perturbation expansion in both cases.

Three-body interacting dipolar bosons and the fate of lattice supersolidity

Manpreet Singh, Tapan Mishra

We investigate a system of dipolar bosons in an optical lattice with local two- and three-body interactions. Using the mean-field-theory approach, we obtain the ground-state phase diagram of the extended Bose-Hubbard model with both repulsive and attractive three-body interactions. We show that the additional three-body on-site interaction has strong effects on the phase diagram, especially on the supersolid phase. Positive values of the three-body interaction lead to the enhancement of the gapped phases at densities larger than unity by reducing the supersolid region. However, a small attractive three-body interaction enhances the supersolid phase.

Spin-1 Bose Hubbard model with three body interaction and magnetic fields

Sk Noor Nabi, Saurabh Basu

We explore the effects of a repulsive three body interaction and a synthetic gauge field on a spin-1 ultracold Bose gas on an optical lattice to study the quantum phase transition from a supeifluid (SF) to Mon insulating (MI) phase. Both effects being experimentally feasible to achieve, we also add an external Zeeman field to explore an interesting interplay among three of them. A site decoupling mean field technique, known to be an efficient marker of different quantum phases for a spinor Bose Hubbard model, is employed. Without the magnetic fields, the presence of three body interaction stabilizes all the MI lobes, excepting the first one, compared to the SF phase while in presence of the magnetic fields, the spin nematic MI phase makes inroad into the SF phase at the expense of the spin singlet MI phase.

Quantum phases of a spin-1 ultracold Bose gas with three-body interactions

Sk Noor Nabi, Saurabh Basu

We study the effects of a three-body interaction potential on a spin-1 ultracold Bose gas using mean-field approach (MFA). For an antiferromagnetic (AF) interaction, we have found the existence of the odd-even asymmetry in the Mott insulating (MI) lobes in the presence of both the repulsive two- and three-body interactions. In case of a purely three-body repulsive interaction, the higher-order MI lobes stabilize against the superfluid phase. Also the spin nematic (singlet) formation occurs for all the odd (even) MI lobes for the former, while there is neither any asymmetry, nor spin nematic (singlet) formation being observed for the latter case. The results are confirmed after carefully scrutinizing the spin eigenvalue and spin nematic order parameter for both the cases. We have compared our MFA results with the analytic phase diagrams obtained using a perturbation mean-field (PMFA) expansion.

Interplay of the Staggered and Three‐Body Interaction Potentials on the Quantum Phases of a Spin‐1 Ultracold Atom in an Optical Lattice

Sk Noor Nabi

Abstract The interplay of the staggered and the three‐body interaction potentials on the quantum phases of a spin‐1 Bose Hubbard model using a mean field approximation (MFA) is studied. In the antiferromagnetic (AF) case, a smaller value of the staggered potential (SP) results in the charge and the spin density wave ordering along with the Mott insulator (MI) and the staggered superfluid (SSF) phases. While the competition between two types of the potential leads to the stabilization of the higher order MI and charge density wave (CDW) phases with increasing three‐body interaction strength. Further, the spin eigenvalue and nematic order parameters are calculated to scrutinize the spin singlet‐nematic formation in the MI and the CDW phases and spin population fractions to analyze the nature of the SSF phase. A signature of the spin density wave (SDW) pattern is also observed in the gapped phase lobes. In case of a purely three‐body interaction, the third and higher order insulating lobes become dominant with increasing staggered potential strength. Subsequently, all MFA phase diagrams are then nicely corroborated with the analytical results obtained using a perturbative expansion corresponding to the AF and ferromagnetic cases.
