Abstract

The evolution of atomic population in the model of two different atoms interacting with two-mode field are investigated. The effect of the relative coupling constant (R=g1/g2) and initial two-mode cavity field on the inversion of atomic population are discussed.

Cavity Field Spectra of Two Different Atoms Interacting with Two-mode Field

Guiming Zhang, Gao Yun-feng

The cavity field spectrum of two atoms interacting with two-mode fields with different coupling constants(g_1≠g_2) was studied.By solving the eigen equation, the cavity field spectrum expression of the system was given out. Some numerical results for the fields in pure number state and the atoms in the upper level were presented initially. The effects of the relative coupling constant R=g_2/g_1 or photon number on the spectrum structure were analyzed. It is found that R plays a different role in the spectrum with field in vacuum state, weak state and strong state. The frequency of one mode field spectrum is tuned by the intensity of the other mode. The frequencies of two modes spectra can be changed by the relative coupling constant.

Population Inversion of Two Moving Atoms in a Cavity

Cai Xun-Ming, 邹光龙 ZOU Guang-long

In order to find out the effect of atomic motion on the population inversion of two atoms, the atomic states were analyzed by the method of quantum mechanics. It was found that the population inversion of two atoms was related to the field mode structure in an optical resonant cavity when the atoms were moving and the optical field was in coherent state. When two atoms in the cavity were fixed at initial time, the evolvement of population inversion of two atoms was periodic in the case of a small average photo number, and there were collapses and revivals of atomic inversion in the case of a large average photo number. The evolvement of population inversion of two atoms became well-regulated orderly under the coherent cavity field when atoms were in motion at initial time. The population inversion of two atoms will evolve in different periods when the two atoms move in axial direction at different velocity. The period of population inversion is the lease common multiple of periods of coupling coefficients between two atoms and field. When there are more average photon number in the cavity, the oscillation of population inversion will be faster. So it is possible to control the population inversion by properly choosing the velocity of atoms and the initial field.

Cavity Field Spectra of Two Atoms Interacting with Two-mode Field in Coherent States

Gao Yun-feng

The cavity field spectra of two atoms interacting with two-mode field with different coupling constant via two-photon resonant transition processes are investigated. The results for the initial fields in coherent states are presented. The effects of relative coupling constant R=g_2/g_1 and initial field intensity on the spectrum structure are discussed. It is found that the each mode spectrum appears generally two peeks for weak initial fields and three peeks for strong fields.

Evolution of Population Inversion Controlled by the Time-Dependent Coupling: an Inverse Problem

Sunsheng Yang, Yang Ya-Ping, Chen Hong

We propose an inverse idea of controlling the evolution of the population inversion by a time-dependent coupling between the cavity field and a two-level system described through the Jaynes–Cummings model. We demonstrate the detailed procedure by obtaining the population evolution taking the non-sinusoidal form, which is different from the previous sinusoidal Rabi oscillation as the cavity field frequency and coupling parameters are constant during the interaction time.
