An improved certified e-mail protocol for mobile environments

Abstract

As e-mail services get wide use in business transactions, the privacy and fairness properties of these services become more important. A certified e-mail protocol focuses mainly on the fairness of e-mail exchanges: it ensures that the receiver get access to the e-mail content if and only if the sender obtains a non-refutable proof of receipt, which is usually a signature of the receiver. This paper identifies a security flaw in a certified e-mail protocol for mobile environments based on the Guillou-Quisquater signature scheme, proposed at GLOBECOM 2003. A dishonest sender can exploit this flaw to gain advantage over the message receiver with high probability within a few rounds of interactions. We then propose an improved protocol, which is based on a verifiably encrypted RSA signature scheme, to fix this security flaw. The new protocol obtains a trustable security (fairness) level and is as efficient as the original insecure protocol.

An Efficient Certified E-Mail Scheme Suitable for Wireless Mobile Environments

Guilin Wang, Feng Bao, Jianying Zhou +1 more

As security enhanced systems for standard e-mail, certified e-mail schemes guarantee the fair exchange of a digital message with the corresponding receipt between two mistrusted parties. That is, the intended receiver gets the e-mail content if and only if the e-mail sender obtains an irrefutable receipt issued by the receiver, which could be used to prove that the message has been delivered to the receiver. A number of such protocols have been proposed in recent years. However, most of them are not suitable for mobile networks, since many intricate cryptographic primitives are involved so that considerable overheads are introduced. In this paper, we present a novel simple protocol for certified e-mail delivery. Technical discussions are provided to show that our new solution is both secure and very efficient so that it is truly suitable for wireless mobile users, where the available devices usually have limited resources on computation, communication, storage, and power supply.

New Certified E-mail Protocol

Gengli Chen

A certified E-mail protocol is about fair exchange of a message m for its receipt.Fairness is the most important property in exchange. It modifies existing convertible authenticated encryption scheme so that it can be used by certified E-mail protocols, and based on the scheme,a new certified E-mail protocol is proposed to guarantee privacy and low computation overhead.

A New Certified E-Mail Protocol Based on Signcrytion

Wen Qiao-yan

A certified e-mail protocol is about fair exchange of a message m for its receipt. Fairness is the most important property in exchange. We modify existing W-B signcryption scheme so that it can be used by certified e-mail protocols, and based on the modified scheme we propose a new certified e-mail protocol. The protocol makes use of an off-line and transparent trusted third party only in exceptional circumstances, and has lower computation overhead and better efficiency comparing related protocol.

A New Protocol for Certified Mail Based on Off-line Conditional TTP

Shen Wei

Electronic mail delivery is one of the most important and desirable services, by which the intended recipient will get the mail if and only if the mail originator receives a valid and irrefutable proof of the receipt. The idea of conditional trusted third party has been developed on the basis of semi-trusted TTP and a suite of acceptable conditions is given. A new practical protocol for certified e-mail is presented, which can guarantee acceptable fair with interception of conditional TTP. More, the evidence in the new protocol is publicly verifiable without any restrictions on the type of signature and encryption algorithms.

Efficient and secure protocol in fair certified E-mail delivery

Ren-Junn Hwang, Chih-Hua Lai

Abstract:- An efficient and secure protocol in certified e-mail delivery is proposed in this paper. With the widespread use of public Internet, communication via electronic mail (e-mail) becomes a convenience application instead of traditional manuscript letter. People can easily append his/her digital signature to the e-mail in order to achieve the goal of non-repudiation of origin. However, the evidence of receipt still relies on the willingness of the recipient in the standard e-mail service. Hence, the recipient has no responsible for the received e-mail. In this paper, we present an efficient and secure protocol in fair certified e-mail delivery (CEMD). Our protocol efficiently provides non-repudiation of origin and receipt in the fair manner. In other words, the sender can obtain the irrefutable receipt if and only if the recipient gets the certified e-mail from the sender, otherwise, neither of them. Moreover, the proposed CEMD is efficiently in sending the other mails to the same recipient by using the pre-computation function. As the evaluations of computational cost and communication overhead, our protocol is cost-effective and efficient than other relevant protocols.

Certified e-Mail Protocol with Verifiable Third Party

Macià Mut–Puigserver, Josep Lluís Ferrer Gomila, Llorenç Huguet Rotger

Certified e-mail is a particular case of fair exchange. TTPs play an important role in this kind of protocols and their reliability and security is a problem that needs to be addressed. In order to enhance the trust in non-repudiation services we propose TTPs that provide verifiable services, so users get evidence of the TTPs operations. In this paper we design a new certified e-mail protocol where the user confidence on what is happening when he invokes the TTP is enhanced.
