Signal and artificial noise beamforming for secure simultaneous wireless information and power transfer multiple‐input multiple‐output relaying systems

Guangchi Zhang, Xueyi Li, Miao Cui +2 more

Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) is a potential technique to solve the energy scarcity problem in wireless communication networks. Information transmission security is one of the key issues to be addressed in SWIPT. In this study, the authors consider guaranteeing the information transmission security of a multiple‐input multiple‐output non‐regenerative relay system with SWIPT in the physical layer by designing source and relay beamforming to maximise the security rate of the system. The problem is to design the source signal and artificial noise (AN) beamforming and the relay forwarding beamforming jointly, which is highly non‐convex. They first propose an alternating optimisation‐based algorithm, which designs the beamforming matrices at the source and relay separately and alternately. Next, they propose a joint design algorithm which designs the source signal and AN beamforming and the relay beamforming together. Finally, they propose a non‐iterative design algorithm with low complexity. The performances of the proposed design algorithms have been verified by computer simulations.

Joint cooperative beamforming and artificial noise design for secure AF relay networks with energy-harvesting eavesdroppers

In this paper, we investigate physical layer security for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer in amplify-and-forward relay networks. We propose a joint robust cooperative beamforming and artificial noise scheme for secure communication and efficient wireless energy transfer. Specifically, by treating the energy receiver as a potential eavesdropper and assuming that only imperfect channel state information can be obtained, we formulate an optimization problem to maximize the worst-case secrecy rate between the source and the legitimate information receiver under both the power constraint at the relays and the wireless power harvest constraint at the energy receiver. Since such a problem is non-convex and hard to tackle, we propose a two-level optimization approach which involves a one-dimensional search and semidefinite relaxation. Simulation results show that the proposed robust scheme achieves better worst-case secrecy rate performance than other schemes.

Robust secure transmission for wireless information and power transfer in heterogeneous networks

Huang Kai‐zhi, Zhang Bo

Here, the authors investigate robust secure transmission for wireless information and power transfer in heterogeneous networks (HeNets) under the deterministic and stochastic CSI errors, respectively, where one macrocell base station (MBS) and one femtocell base station (FBS) respectively serve to macrocell users (MUs) and femtocell users (FUs). Meanwhile, FUs acquire energy from the FBS and multiple eavesdroppers attempt to wiretap its downlink information. To secure the wireless information and power transfer, the authors propose an artificial noise (AN)‐aided transmission design. Under the deterministic CSI error, the authors jointly design the beamforming and AN vectors of the MBS and FBS to minimise the total transmit power, while satisfying the constraints on the signal‐to‐interference plus noise (SINR) requirement at each MU, energy harvesting (EH) and secrecy outage probability requirement at each FU. This formulated problem is non‐convex. Utilising S‐procedure and successive convex approximation technique, the authors successfully transfer it into a series of convex problems. Under the stochastic CSI error, the joint design problem is formulated with a range of outage probabilistic constraints. Further, the authors, respectively, resort to large deviation and Bernstein‐type inequalities, S‐procedure to convert it into solvable forms. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the authors’ proposed design.
