Abstract

Application of the Hadamard and related transforms on a few generalized quantum baker’s maps have been studied. Effectiveness of the Hadamard transform and a new transform which combines the Fourier and the Hadamard transforms, for simplifying the eigenstates or resonances of the quantization of a few generalized baker’s map namely tetradic baker and lazy baker’s map when the Hilbert space dimension is power of [Formula: see text] has been done by comparing the participation ratios in the transformed basis with respect to the position basis. Several special family of states based on their maximal compression in either Hadamard transform or the new transform are identified and they are related to the ubiquitous Thue–Morse and allied sequences. Evidence is provided that these special family of states as well as average over all eigenstates exhibits multifractal nature.

Using the Hadamard and related transforms for simplifying the spectrum of the quantum baker's map

Arul Lakshminarayan, N. Meenakshisundaram

We rationalize the somewhat surprising efficacy of the Hadamard transform in simplifying the eigenstates of the quantum baker's map, a paradigmatic model of quantum chaos. This allows us to construct closely related, but new, transforms that do significantly better, thus nearly solving many states of the quantum baker's map. These transforms, which combine the standard Fourier and Hadamard transforms in an interesting manner, are constructed from eigenvectors of the shift permutation operator that are also simultaneous eigenvectors of bit-flip (parity) and possess bit-reversal (time-reversal) symmetry.

Weak Schmidt decomposition and generalized Bell basis related to Hadamard matrices

Bobo Hua, Shao-Ming Fei, Jost, Juergen +1 more

We study the mathematical structures and relations among some quantities in the theory of quantum entanglement, such as separability, weak Schmidt decompositions, Hadamard matrices etc.. We provide an operational method to identify the Schmidt-correlated states by using weak Schmidt decomposition. We show that a mixed state is Schmidt-correlated if and only if its spectral decomposition consists of a set of pure eigenstates which can be simultaneously diagonalized in weak Schmidt decomposition, i.e. allowing for complex-valued diagonal entries. For such states, the separability is reduced to the orthogonality conditions of the vectors consisting of diagonal entries associated to the eigenstates, which is surprisingly related to the so-called complex Hadamard matrices. Using the Hadamard matrices, we provide a variety of generalized maximal entangled Bell bases.

An integral transform related to quantization. II. Some mathematical properties

Ingrid C. Daubechies, Alex Grossmann, J. Reignier

We study in more detail the mathematical properties of the integral transform relating the matrix elements between coherent states of a quantum operator to the corresponding classical function. Explicit families of Hilbert spaces are constructed between which the integral transform is an isomorphism.

Generalized quantum baker maps as perturbations of a simple kernel

Leonardo Ermann, Marcos Saraceno

We present a broad family of quantum baker maps that generalize the proposal of Schack and Caves to any even Hilbert space with arbitrary boundary conditions. We identify a structure, common to all maps consisting of a simple kernel perturbed by diffraction effects. This "essential" baker's map has a different semiclassical limit and can be diagonalized analytically for Hilbert spaces spanned by qubits. In all cases this kernel provides an accurate approximation to the spectral properties-eigenvalues and eigenfunctions-of all the different quantizations.

Gaussian integrals depending on a quantum parameter in finite dimension

Simone Camosso

A common theme in mathematics is the evaluation of Gauss integrals. This, coupled with the fact that they are used in different branches of science, makes the topic always actual and interesting. In these notes we shall analyze a particular class of Gaussian integrals that depends by the quantum parameter $\hbar$. Starting from classical results, we will present an overview on methods, examples and analogies regarding the practice of solving quantum Gaussian integrals.

Quantum baker maps with controlled-NOT coupling

Vallejos, R O, Santoro, P R, D'Almeida, A M O

The characteristic stretching and squeezing of chaotic motion is linearized within the finite number of phase space domains which subdivide a classical baker map. Tensor products of such maps are also chaotic, but a more interesting generalized baker map arises if the stacking orders for the factor maps are allowed to interact. These maps are readily quantized, in such a way that the stacking interaction is entirely attributed to primary qubits in each map, if each subsystem has power-of-two Hilbert space dimension. We here study the particular example of two baker maps that interact via a controlled-not interaction. Numerical evidence indicates that the control subspace becomes an ideal Markovian environment for the target map in the limit of large Hilbert space dimension.
