Minimum Copies of Schrödinger’s Cat State in the Multi-Photon System

Abstract

Multi-photon entanglement has been successfully studied by many theoretical and experimental groups. However, as the number of entangled photons increases, some problems are encountered, such as the exponential increase of time necessary to prepare the same number of copies of entangled states in experiment. In this paper, a new scheme is proposed based on the Lagrange multiplier and Feedback, which cuts down the required number of copies of Schrödinger's Cat state in multi-photon experiment, which is realized with some noise in actual measurements, and still keeps the standard deviation in the error of fidelity unchanged. It reduces about five percent of the measuring time of eight-photon Schrödinger's Cat state compared with the scheme used in the usual planning of actual measurements, and moreover it guarantees the same low error in fidelity. In addition, we also applied the same approach to the simulation of ten-photon entanglement, and we found that it reduces in priciple about twenty two percent of the required copies of Schrödinger's Cat state compared with the conventionally used scheme of the uniform distribution; yet the distribution of optimized copies of the ten-photon Schrödinger's Cat state gives better fidelity estimation than the uniform distribution for the same number of copies of the ten-photon Schrödinger's Cat state.

Minimum Number of Copies in the Measurement of Multi-Photon Entanglement

Lu, Yiping, Qing Qi Zhao

Multi-photon entanglement has been successfully made by experimental groups. As the increase of photon number, several problems are encountered, say, greater number of copies, longer time, the error of fidelity and so on. In this paper, we present a new scheme based on Lagrange multiplier and feedback to save the measure copies in multi-photon experiment and five percent of measuring time, also guarantee the acceptable error of fidelity. All the results have been supported by the data of eight photon experiment. Furthermore, same approach is applied in the simulation for ten photon entanglement, and 22.45 percent of copies are saved, optimized copy distribution gives better estimation of fidelity than the average copy distribution.

Quantum entanglement dynamics in multi-photon systems: A theoretical framework for enhanced quantum computing

Dr. Lakshmi Narasappa

Quantum entanglement represents a fundamental resource for quantum information processing, yet the dynamics of multi-photon entangled systems remain inadequately characterized for practical quantum computing applications. This research investigates the generation, manipulation, and characterization of entangled states involving two to eight photons using spontaneous parametric down-conversion techniques. Through theoretical analysis and numerical simulations, we developed a comprehensive framework that quantifies entanglement fidelity, decoherence rates, and Bell inequality violations across various multi-photon configurations. Our findings reveal that entanglement fidelity decreases exponentially with increasing photon number, exhibiting a decay constant of 0.087±0.012 per additional qubit in optical systems. The research demonstrates significant variations in decoherence times across different physical implementations, with ion trap systems maintaining coherence 1.7 times longer than photonic platforms for equivalent qubit numbers. We established mathematical relationships between system parameters and entanglement quality metrics, identifying critical thresholds for fault-tolerant quantum gate operations. The theoretical framework incorporates realistic noise models, environmental coupling mechanisms, and measurement-induced perturbations that affect practical implementations. Our analysis indicates that five-photon entangled states maintain sufficient fidelity (>83.5%) for error-corrected quantum algorithms when decoherence times exceed 75 microseconds. These results provide essential guidelines for designing scalable quantum processors and establishing benchmarks for experimental validation of multi-qubit entanglement protocols.

Generation of multicomponent Schrödinger cat states in schemes with measurement of Gaussian states

E. A. Nesterova, S. B. Korolev

In this work, we propose a scheme for generating superpositions of Fock states whose numbers differ by four or eight. The proposed protocol is based on photon-number-resolving measurements on multimode Gaussian states. We compare of the generated states with multicomponent Schrödinger cat states. We evaluate the fidelity and determine how it scales with the number of detected particles. Furthermore, we derive the optimal configuration for the generation such states.

Effect of entanglement in the generalized photon subtraction scheme

E. N. Bashmakova, S. B. Korolev, T. Yu. Golubeva

Abstract The paper considers the possibility of generating different non-Gaussian states using the entangled state photon measurement scheme. In the paper, we have proposed a way to explicitly find the wave function and the Wigner function of the output state of this scheme. Moreover, the solutions found are not restricted to any particular case, but have maximum generality (depend on the number of measured photons and on all parameters of the scheme). Such a notation allowed us to carry out a complete analysis of the output states, depending on the scheme parameters. Using explicit expressions, we have analyzed the magnitude of non-Gaussianity of the output states, and we have revealed which particular states can be obtained in the proposed scheme. We have considered in detail a particular case of measurement (single photon measurement) and have shown that using explicit expressions for the output state wave function one can find scheme parameters to obtain states suitable for quantum error correction codes with a large fidelity value and high probability. The Schrodinger’s cat state with amplitude α = 2 can be obtained with fidelity F ≈ 0.88 and probability 18 percent, and the squeezed Schrodinger’s cat state (α = 0.5, R = 1) with fidelity F ≈ 0.98 and probability 22%.

Efficient generation of optical cat states using squeezed few-photon superposition states

Haoyuan Luo, Sahand Mahmoodian

Optical Schrödinger cat states are non-Gaussian states with applications in quantum technologies, such as for building error-correcting states in quantum computing. Yet the efficient generation of high-fidelity optical Schrödinger cat states is an outstanding problem in quantum optics. Here, we propose using squeezed superpositions of zero and two photons, $|θ\rangle = \cos{(θ/2)}|0\rangle + \sin{(θ/2)}|2\rangle$, as ingredients for protocols to efficiently generate high-fidelity cat states. We present a protocol using linear optics with success probability $P\gtrsim 50\%$ that can generate cat states of size $|α|^2=5$ with fidelity $F>0.99$. The protocol relies only on detecting single photons and is remarkably tolerant of loss, with $2\%$ detection loss still achieving $F>0.98$ for cats with $|α|^2=5$. We also show that squeezed $θ$ states are ideal candidates for nonlinear photon subtraction using a two-level system with near deterministic success probability and fidelity $F>0.98$ for cat states of size $|α|^2=5$. Schemes for generating $θ$ states using quantum emitters are also presented. Our protocols can be implemented with current state-of-the-art quantum optics experiments.
